Slovakia, as a very mountainous country with a number of peaks accessible to tourists, offers really beautiful mountain ascents in every season. This list brings out the best of them

1.
Ascent to Rysy from Poland

Behind the highest peak of Poland

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 503 m / 8 212 ft

The ascent to Rysy from the Polish side starts from the parking lot in Lysá Poľana, which is already full of tourists at 7 in the morning, so I recommend an early start, the ascent itself takes about 6 hours (depending on the number of tourists) and the descent from the Slovak side about 4 hours. Before climbing, it is still necessary to pay for entry to the national park from the Polish side, which costs 5 zlotys or 2 euros. continue reading

2.
Ascent to Kriváň from Štrbské pleso

Symbol of Slovakia

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 494 m / 8 182 ft

The ascent to 2494 m above sea level Kriváň begins at Štrbské pleso, from where the route continues along the red mark for about 1 hour to the crossroads at Jamský pleso. From the crossroads, a gradual two-and-a-half-hour ascent along the blue mark to Krivánsky žľab begins, from where the most demanding part of the ascent, which lasts 1 hour, begins. The way back is along the same route and takes about 1 hour less. continue reading

3.
Velická dolina to Východná Vysoká

Under the crown of the High Tatras

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 428 m / 7 966 ft

The ascent begins with a slight ascent of about 2 hours along the green mark from Tatranská Polianka to Sliezký dům, where about 2 hours of more intense ascent over the Polish ridge to the top of Východná Vysoká are needed. During the trip I walk through one of the few places in the Tatras where we can enjoy the view of Gerlachovský štít. From the top there are wonderful views of Slovakia and Poland. continue reading

4.
Hike across Prielom pass to the Polish ridge

Connection of three valleys

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 288 m / 7 507 ft

Prielom (2,288 m) is a wild mountain pass with a beautiful view of the mountain lakes at the end of Velká Studená dolina (= the Great Cold Valley). It is also a path to rarely walked Litvorová valley and a connection to Velické valley over the Polish ridge (2200 m asl) or a starting point to the top of Východná Vysoká (= East High) (2428 m asl). It's part of a very popular long day trip combining  Velká Studená a Velická dolina (= Great Cold and Velická Valleys). continue reading

5.
Ascent to Predné Solisko

High Tatras - hike suitable for children

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 117 m / 6 946 ft

Predné Solisko (2117 m) is the southernmost peak in the Solisek ridge in the High Tatras. It is the only tourist peak in the Solisek ridge. Less able tourists can facilitate the ascent by using the cable car from Štrbské pleso to Chata pod Soliskom. continue reading

6.
Winter ascent to Ginger

Beautiful view of the High Tatras

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 043 m / 6 703 ft

The winter ascent to Ďumbier (2,043 m above sea level) is something new for all mountain lovers, it does not follow the same route as the summer one, especially from Chata Milan Rastislav Štefánik you do not have to go around the top, but you climb vertically upwards, so there is no significant time difference and you can cover the whole route in a comparable time as in summer, even if it gets worse. Winter views in nice weather are just as fascinating if not more beautiful than summer ones. continue reading

7.
Ascent to Babi hora

The highest mountain Beskydy

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 725 m / 5 659 ft

Babí hora (1,725 m above sea level), Babia Hora or Babia Góra is the highest mountain in the entire Beskydy Mountains and is located on the Polish-Slovak border. Compared to other Beskydy peaks, it is more reminiscent of the peaks of the Low Tatras or Malá Fatra. The climb to the top is a great, not too demanding, all-day hike. continue reading

8.
Winter ascent to Velký Rozsutec

Ascent to the most beautiful Slovak mountain

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 609 m / 5 279 ft

The ascent to this impressive mountain begins with a friend in the village of Štefanová from the parking lot following the green sign to the Medziholie saddle, from where we head directly to the top following the red markings. From previous snowy days and low temperatures, today's sunny weather promises us a winter fairy tale with everything :-) continue reading

9.
Summer ascent to Veľký Rozsutec

Small circuit in Malá Fatra

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 609 m / 5 279 ft

A tip for more demanding tourists how to spend the whole day in Malá Fatra and experience both the grassy ridge and the rocks and easy climbing on one of the most beautiful mountains in Central Europe. continue reading

10.
Winter ascent to Velký Choč

For the best view in Slovakia

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 608 m / 5 276 ft

Choč, 1608m high mountain. The exit point is usually the settlement Valaská Dubová, from where you follow the blue sign to Stredná Poľana, a large meadow from which you can see the landscape for the first time and the top of Choč, which is almost within reach. The ascent is a bit monotonous, but intense, but not demanding, the top passage is secured by chains. From the top there is a panorama of the Tatras, Velká and Malá Fatra with Babí hora in the north. During the week and in the winter there is a relative calm, the exact opposite is the summer months. continue reading

11.
Ascent to Veľký Choč

The highest peak of the Choč Hills

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 578 m / 5 177 ft

There are several possibilities to complete the ascent to Veľký Choč, this time I bring you the most demanding variant of the ascent to Veľký Choč from Ružomberok, via Likava, Predný Choč and with the descent to Lúčky. continue reading

12.
Ascent to Vápeč

Beautiful view in Strážovské vrchy

Rating:
| Altitude: 897 m / 2 943 ft

Vápeč (956 m above sea level) is a Slovak mountain in Strážovské vrchy. It lies east of the village Horná Poruba. The hill is also a national nature reserve. continue reading

13.
Ascent to Jahňací štít

The easternmost peak of the High Tatras

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 230 m / 7 316 ft

Jaňací štít 2230m is located at the easternmost point of the High Tatras, only the Belianske Tatras connect. It is one of the traditional hike to the peaks, where the route leads through the valley, passes through Chata Pri Zelenom Plese and climbs over stones and chains to get to the top by a short path. This part of the Tatras seems to me the most beautiful, high peaks are cut here, cut into a valley that turns into the grassy mountains of the Belianske Tatras. continue reading
