Babí hora (1,725 m above sea level), Babia Hora or Babia Góra is the highest mountain in the entire Beskydy Mountains and is located on the Polish-Slovak border. Compared to other Beskydy peaks, it is more reminiscent of the peaks of the Low Tatras or Malá Fatra. The climb to the top is a great, not too demanding, all-day hike.

Beginning of the route - parking lot

The optimal circular route starts at the Przełęcz Krowiarki saddle, where there is a parking lot, refreshments, souvenirs and also entrance to the park, which costs a few zlotys.

Falcon

After a few hundred meters of the path through the forest, we reach the first viewpoint called Sokolica, where we can see the entire ridge that awaits us.

Infinite peak

Every peak feels like the highest during the hike. However, several similar peaks need to be conquered before we deserve the final one.

The peak of Babí hora

At the top of Babí hora, we are greeted by rockfalls against the wind, cairns and a monument in honor of Pope John Paul II, who liked to visit this peak in his youth. The peak has a fairly steep northern slope, but the southern side is flat and extensive.

Descent into the Bron saddle

The next part of the tour continues through similar terrain up to the Brona saddle. The path can be shortened in summer by a steep northern slope with a return to the parking lot, but in winter and spring it is very dangerous.

Markowe Szczawina's cottage

From the Brona saddle, we can still decide to climb Mala Babí Hora, which is only about 25 minutes away. Then from the Brona saddle, we continue along the forest slope to the Markowe Szczawiny hut, where it is possible to regain strength with food or drink. You can pay by card and there are beautiful pictures of the mountains.

From the cottage back to the starting point

From the cottage, we continue along a very pleasant and well-maintained forest path along the contour to the parking lot from where we came.

Mokry Stawek

In the last few meters before the finish line, we will be surprised by the green-blue forest lake or the Mokry Stawek pond. The whole hike at a leisurely pace with breaks takes about 6 hours and makes a total of about 13 km.

Very interesting accommodation in the vicinity of Babí hora can be found in Rabčice
