They want there:

In the world, you go to a number of roads leading through a beautiful landscape, others called death roads for their danger or those that lead through an incredible number of serpentines to a mountain pass. We will present the best of them here.

1.
Death road

Rough road from La Paz to Coroico

Rating:
| Altitude: 4 660 m / 15 289 ft

One of the most famous „death“ roads of the world leads from the capital of Bolivia La Paz to Coroico lying already in misty Yungas. Today, the vast majority of traffic leads along new asphalt road, which is less deadly. The old one has become perhaps the most popular destination of the trip offered today by travel agencies in La Paz – downhill bike „Camino de la Muerte“ from the pass Cumbre (4,660 m asl) up to Coroico (1,525 m asl). continue reading

2.
Drive in Canyon Rondu

Beautiful way from Gilgit to Skardu

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 200 m / 7 218 ft

One of the most beautiful passages around the flow of Indus River is 150 km long canyon Ronda pushing its way through the massive walls of Karakoram. The river loses during its wild flow through the canyon nearly a kilometer of altitude. On the way you can see interesting bridges and cable railways across the river into green oases around its side tributaries, waterfalls and caves in which miners are looking for precious stones. Above all this protrude rock towers and glaciated giants. It is just great piece of wild nature. On the other hand, the path often suffers from rock slides after fierce downpours. continue reading

3.
Geirangerfjord and Dalsnibba

The path full of sharp bends and outlook

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 476 m / 4 843 ft

Both the driver and the car's passengers will enjoy this car journey in the countryside of mountains and fjords, because there is ample opportunity and reason to stop. From the Troll´s path continues the road no.63 to the fjord Norddalsfjorden that must be overcome by ferry to the small settlement Eidsdal. From here continues the road no.63 up to the town Geiranger, lying on the fjord bearing the same name. In front of the town is a series of switchbacks and wonderful outlooks of the fjord. This part is also known as the Eagle Path (Ornevegen). It was opened in 1955 and the elevation is more than 650 meters. From Geiranger the road again begins to rise in numerous switchbacks and lead us to the lake Djupvatnet (1 016 m asl). From here leads a local branch to the top of Dalsnibba (1 476 m asl- toll of 60, – NOK). Round view offers mountain scenery with glaciers, lakes and fjord. The only drawback to this attractive route is the fact that many tourists come here, the roads can thus be full of buses and there may be quite a lot of people on top of Dalsnibba.  continue reading

Moroccan Grand Canyon

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 950 m / 6 398 ft

The most interesting part of the journey through the gorge Dades begins with famous switchbacks, during which you get several dozen altitude meters higher. Another part of the journey continues high above the canyon, where you can enjoy views of the greenery surrounding the river and arid mountain ridges around. However, if you do not have off-road car, your journey ends basically with the end of asphalt a few kilometers behind Msemrir and you will have to return the same way.   continue reading

Riding Through The Valley Of Death

To the lowest place in North America

Rating:
| Altitude: -86 m / -282 ft

Just because of its menacing name Death Valley, aka Death Valley, attracts a lot of travelers to visit. In addition to being the lowest and warmest place in North America, it is also conveniently located between the gambling city of Las Vegas in Nevada and the amazing national parks of the Sierra Nevada in California. For these reasons, it is not missing in almost any of the classic circuits in the western United States. Although there are several trekking routes here (eg to the top of Telescope Peak (3,368 m above sea level), thanks to the huge heat that prevails here for most of the year, and long distances, it is rather an ideal place for classic US car tourism. continue reading

7.
Along the road from Leh to Manali

Epic road through the Himalayas

Rating:
| Altitude: 5 328 m / 17 480 ft

Long road between Leh and Manali overcomes five very high passes. The highest of them – Taglang la (5 328 m asl) is also one of the highest motorized passes in the world. Along the way you will enjoy views not only of Ladack „moonscape“ and high Himalayan peaks. The more you are in the south, the landscape is greener. In Lahaul valley you will see a lot of interesting waterfalls. Finally will await you passage of the pass Rohtang, which is the lowest of all, but also the wettest and muddiest, so there are a lot of landslides. Moreover, it is a popular place for Indians from lowlands, so there are incredible crowds in recent years. In addition, several places on this road are also starting points to terrific treks, so if you grow fond of Ladakh, you will pass here several times.   continue reading

Drive through Zoji la Pass

From Kashmir to Ladakh

Rating:
| Altitude: 3 528 m / 11 575 ft

The famous high mountain road from Srinagar to Leh leads over several high passes. Crossing of the first one – Zoji la (Zozi la) (3528m asl), where it overcomes the main Himalayan ridge, is the most interesting and also the most adrenaline-filled part of this whole journey. This is especially true about the beginning of the season, when there's still plenty of snow. Drive across the Suge la pass

Shortcut to Shigatse

Rating:
| Altitude: 5 530 m / 18 143 ft

Suge la (5 452 m asl) is one the highest motorized passes in the world and its crossing, if weather permits, is a great experience. It lies on the road S304 at the western end of mountain range Nyenchen Tanglha. Driving over the pass is also a shorter version of the route between Nam tso lake and Shigatse, making it the perfect choice for those who do not need to go for some reason via Lhasa. The pass itself is relatively flat and a little bit lost in mountainsides, so it is worth to go above it (5 530 m asl) to have better views. The main magnet in the vicinity of the pass is glacial peak of Qiongmo Kangri (7 048 m asl) towering above everything. Unfortunately, only few people manage to see it not-hidden behind the clouds. continue reading

Perhaps the most famous pass in the Alps

Rating:
| Altitude: 2 758 m / 9 049 ft

Drive Prithvi Highway

Káthmándú - Pokhara

Rating:
| Altitude: 1 510 m / 4 954 ft

The most frequently used road route by tourists in Nepal is probably more than 200 km long Prithvi Highway leading from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Moreover, there are a number of important branches on the way: to Arughat Bazaar (the basis of Manaslu trek), Bharatpur/Sauraha (Chitwan NP), Gorkha (the historical town and alternative start of the trek around Manaslu) and Besi Shahar (the basis of the trek around Annapurnas), so if you go back to Nepal, you will be familiar with it. Long driving time between 6–8 hours in often crowded bus is compensated by spectacular views of the verdant mountains of the Little Himalayas Mahabharat. There will be countless number of rice fields around you and if weather permits, the horizon will be dominated by the peaks of Ganesh and Manaslu. Most of the route leads along the beautiful river Trisuli, a paradise for rafters. If you want to enjoy this trip even more and take better photos than from the bus window, it is ideal to rent a bike. But it is a pretty risky business in the local traffic. continue reading
