Around the island on bike
Even in the tropical paradise of French Polynesia you can enjoy a great ride on a bike – around the entire 59 km long circular small road leading around the island Mo'orea. The only enemy will be hot weather. The traffic is only on the eastern side of the island, but it is not so bad. The most beautiful are the views of the local green mountains.
In the bay Opunohu
Since this trip is circular, you can start at your place of accommodation. We choose as the start Hauru point, because it is the most popular place on the island and we will go clockwise. The first of about 8 km there are not any extraordinary views from the road, but this will change in Opunohu bay. There is also the turning to the lookout Belvedere, so you can also add a mountainous bonus to this trip.
Cruise ships
From the northeast end of the bay Opunohu there are nice views of huge cruise ships.
Strength of nature
Oceania is known for its coconut palms, but even so you may be sometimes surprised by curious pieces that would make anything for light.
Coast of Mo'orea
Coast is picturesque, but there are surprisingly not many suitable places to swim here. The only useful piece of beach in the north between the bays of Opunohu and Cook is occupied by hotel Sheraton.
In the bay Cook
Cook bay is even more beautiful and photogenic than Opunohu. You can usually also here admire cruise ship.
Mouaroa
Beautiful view is also of the local famous top of Mouaroa.
Mt. Rotui
There is also a small town Paopao with a supermarket in the bay Cook, so you can replenish food here. If you continue driving, you will be able to enjoy more and more mountain massif of Mt.Rotui, which has from here a completely different (but little less interesting) shape than from Belvedere.
Beach Temae
Then follow a few boring kilometers mainly because of bypassing the local airport before you get to the beach Temae, which is renowned not only for a good swim, but also for fabulous view of Tahiti.
Beach Temae
Unfortunately, most of the beach belong to the hotel Sofitel, but it's still a very nice place. So if you have more time, it is definitely worth a visit.
Motu Afareaitu
Another very nice place is the bay Vaiare – for most tourists the entry point to the island thanks to the ferry port connecting Mo'orea with Tahiti.
After another three kilometers open the view of nice motu Afareaitu, the only one outside area of Hauru Point. Mainly locals relax on this narrow beach.
Mt. Tohiea
Further kilometers are full of views of the highest mountain in the island – Tohiea.
Variable cloudiness
Weather is changing very fast over the local mountains. Nice weather can change to fog or rain in a few minutes.
Picturesque church
There a few picturesque churches on the western side of the island.
Mountains from the "other" side
The charm of this bike trip is also in the fact that you will see virtually all the mountains from all sides.
Church
You slowly approach Hauru Point and you can be really tired after the whole-day heat. Although it is only 60 km + 10 km if you added Belvedere, but it is more than enough in this climate :-)
