Cycle trip around Mo'orea
You can basically undertake only two cycling trips on the island – either go around the whole island along the coastal road or along the dead end road to beautiful viewpoint Belvedere (250 nm). If you want, you can manage both these trips just in one day. Of course, you will not meet many cyclists here, rather nobody – most people come here by car, which is also an alternative to this trip. From the viewpoint Belvedere you will have a beautiful view of both bays and mainly of amazing local mountains.
Paradise for cattle
At the very end of the bay Opunohu turns our side road to Belvedere. There will be almost 5 km and 250 m elevation. As soon as you turn off the main road, you get to another world. Road traffic fades away significantly and there are agricultural estates around.
Mountains on the island Mo'orea
Just a bit further you can enjoy the amazing view of local pointed mountains – rock spike on the right is called Mouaroa (880 m asl) and in the back you can see the highest mountain on the island – Tohiea (1207 m asl ) situated just four kilometers from the sea level.
Mount Mouaroa (880 m asl)
Mouaroa is truly amazing mountain that still attracts the eye. Unfortunately, there is no tourist trail leading to it or to other local peaks /however, if we do not consider the path to mountain Rotui/.
Landscape on Mo'orea
The surrounding green countryside is beautiful. Indeed it is worth to leave the beach for at least a day or two and explore the hinterland.
The road leads almost along the plain before you reach the next turn to our dead end road to Belvedere /main road leads to the pass below Mount Rotui and falls into the Bay of Cook, i.e. it is not frequently used alternative route to the coastal road/. From this place the road begins to rise in several sharper curves without any significant views.
Mount Rotui (899 m asl)
You finally ascent to the viewpoint Belvedere, from where you have great views of both bays – Opunohu and Cook /see the introductory slide of the photoreport/ and of impressive mountain Rotui towering directly above them. Anyway it is worth to set off soon not to walk up the hill in the midday heat.
Ridge way
From the viewpoint you can clearly see how difficult it would be to cross the ridge in Mo'orea. These mountains are basically only the remnants of fallen gigantic volcanic cone.
Mouapu and other mountains
The enemies of tourist are not only steep slopes, but also virtually impenetrable vegetation.
The impressive spike
Later slowly arrive another trippers in cars, so it is best to say goodbye to the spike Mouaroa and enjoy a nice downhill drive back to the sea.
