Passo dello Stelvio (2,758 m above sea level) is one of the highest and most beautiful alpine passes. It is interesting that you can go there from three directions: the most famous direction is from Prato (48 serpentines lead to the top), then from Bormio or the Swiss Val Müstair via another Umbrail pass. Visiting such a glacier in the summer is not a bad idea at all. To the last glacier of Tyrol – Kaunertal, in addition, there is an interesting alpine road. After paying the fee, a 26 km serpentine exit awaits you around interesting places, which are marked on the received maps, but also by the roads. There are beautiful views. Driving on the Grossglockner road
One of the most famous roads in the Alps
Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse is the highest transit alpine road in Austria and one of the highest in the Alps. It winds over the ridge of the Hohe Tauern, Austria's highest mountain range. It connects the cities of Bruck and Heiligenblut. It is 48 km long with a maximum climb of 12%. It leads through two passes: Fuscher Törl (2,428m) and Hochtor (2,505m). There are also two more blind branches leading from it. The first, about a kilometer, to the Edelweisspitzi mountain (2,571 m), which the road culminates. Here the rise is up to 14%. The second, more than 10 km long, leads to the Franz-Josephs-Hohe hut (2,369 m), from where there is the best view of the Grossglockner and the Pasterze Glacier. So anyone who wants to see everything has to drive about 70km. In winter there is an average of 5 meters of snow and 250 days a year the precipitation is mostly snow, the highest section of the road has an average annual temperature of minus 3ºC.
