Visiting such a glacier in the summer is not a bad idea at all. To the last glacier of Tyrol – Kaunertal, in addition, there is an interesting alpine road. After paying the fee, a 26 km serpentine exit awaits you around interesting places, which are marked on the received maps, but also by the roads. There are beautiful views. A cable car will take you to the top. The local glacier cave is also worth noting.

Fendels

If you have little time, a child in the car, but you want to see and catch up as much as possible, classic hiking must go aside – then this tip for the trip is just for you. Because we were moving in the Gletscherpark area in Tyrol, the choice for the last day of our holiday fell on the Kaunertal. We started the day in the mountain village of Fendels, from where we took a chairlift to the top.

Fendels - children's playground by the cable car

At the top is a nice playground for children, a pond with a raft, water attractions, wooden climbing frames. There is also a classic mountain hut with refreshments and a sun veranda. You can take walks in the surroundings, which we missed due to time constraints.

Fendels - go-kart downhill

A good tip is the way down from the top – we rented go-karts and rode down to the cable car – a great experience, I highly recommend. Backpacks will take you by cable car to save space and comfort.

On the way to Kaunertal

And we can continue on to the glacier. Along the way we met not only cyclists, but also cows, for example, they complete the real alpine atmosphere. Only a person never knows what awaits him at the next turn …

Kaunertal Glacier Road - Lake Stausee

The glacier road to the Kaunertal begins behind the village of Feichten. Tolls are paid here, in winter the ski pass is included in the price.

The peaks of the glacier border the Italian border, so there is a view of the Italian Alps.

Kaunertal

As lovers of winter sports, we imagined what it looks like in the real winter season. We were a little surprised by the way they „preserve“ natural snow for the winter / these are the hills at the piste covered with a tarpaulin /.

Kaunertal - glacier tunnel

Below the cable car is a modern restaurant, again a nice playground and another tip for a tempting walk into the glacier tunnel. You can go to the tunnel either alone or at a certain time with a guide, the entrance fee is free.

Kaunertal

On the way back down we stopped at a few stops, it's a pity that we were pressed by time, by midnight we had to be at home in the Czech Republic. Next time I would dedicate the whole day to this place – it's worth it … Where to look I drew from this site: http://www.gletscherpark.com/en
