Hikers
They want there:

Views guaranteed. You will be between 2000 and 3000 meters above sea level and marmots will call you all the time. We still had a dog with us, which was supposed to have holy patience. The beasts roar and lure and then jump into the burrow. You need two days for the tour, or count another 7 hours from Prague. Completed the last days of July 2021.

From the Glocknerhaus

Count two days if you are able to walk 35 kilometers and about 2.5 thousand meters of elevation gain during them. We slept at the Glocknerhaus and Lucknerhutte, so the transition was easy, after the cottages. We parked the car at the Glocknerhaus. You will reach the famous Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse. Crossing route: Glocknerhause – Salmhutte – Pfortscharte – Lucknerhutte – Lucknerhause – Glorerhutte – Wanderweg714 – Glocknerhause. During the hike, I agreed with my elder Matěj (14) that I would take him to the Grossglockner on a climbing trip through Studlgrat (Mom, when I will finally be able to go to the glacier with you). You will definitely not need any climbing tackles on this hike, although if we had at least rapeseed, it would be useful as a guide for the dog, because we lost him. Not that the dog walked on a leash, but still.

Sandersee

We left the Glocknerhaus just before eight in the morning and were on our own alone. The road first turns from the hut down to the lake – the dog was in trouble and the sheep and goats present were on the lookout, although the Border Collie did not require obedience. On the other hand, marmots only got angry and did it on purpose.

Way up

From the lake the road took a rapid slope upwards and in an hour we were already looking from the saddle Obere Stockerscharte (2500 m) to the other side of the valley. The younger Simon (11) refused to take shorts instead of trousers (so let him bake).

The lake below us. Ascended half an altitude kilometer.

Salmhütte

Climbers from Adlersruhe (Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte) reached Salmhutte (2620 m). The dog, as soon as he understood that we were taking a break, did not hesitate and fell asleep.

Across the saddle Pfortscharte

From the cottage traverse and then scratch down the rubble to the saddle Pfortscharte (2825 m). Signs at Studlhutte. „Matěj, when we climb, we'll sleep in this hut, but count on him getting up at four …“

Descent to Lucknerhütte

Go down from the saddle and before the third we are at Lucknerhütte. Well, it will be a long evening.

Lucknerhütte

There was a storm at night, the dog was raging too. With each thunder, he jumped up and a blanket flew out, which was brought to him by a good waitress. Well, please, I'm looking at the weather at half past one in the morning, the forecast has changed a bit, maybe we'd better take a shorter trip tomorrow so we don't get wet in the afternoon.

Pfortscharte saddle

So in the morning we „burned“ it straight up without descending to Lucknerhaus. On the road 713, which I chose and which traversed to Glorer Hütte, there were ladders and a clutch, so we dug it over the same saddle as yesterday. It's a pity, a little more exposed trip would entertain the boys, but not much with the dog on the ladder. Next time we take his harness and a ferrata, we joke. I'm glad that the fog broke, because for a while it looked like it would start raining in the morning.

On route 702B

I'm glad the fog broke, because for a while it seemed to start raining in the morning. On route 702B, competitors are starting to anticipate us. Grossglockner Ultra-Trail, found by signs. It runs from Kals am Grossglockner to Kaprun. Well, nice, a total of 57 kilometers. The dog seems to be racing with them, but he is chasing a plane, which of course they have no idea. Of course, the dog rinses in the worst muddy water on the road, so it fascinates the competitors even more. We have to get him to the lake, we're plotting because he's dirty from yesterday.

Back at Sandersee

We got the dog to the lake. Then he just wanted to throw a branch all the time.

Homecoming

The rain came of course in the evening, but believe me, the July weather in the mountains is unpredictable and the storms in particular. On the way home we listened to Prašina (children's novel 2018 by Vojtěch Matocha), you have to buy something for that trip. Anyway, I „banged“ us a night and a break in Bischofshofen, I grew up driving seven hours after the hike.
