Trip to the Mooserboden dam

The starting point of this trip is the Kesselfall Alpenhaus (1,045 m above sea level), which can be reached from Kaprun in less than a quarter of an hour by car. The road leads through the valley of the river Kapruner Ache. Here you will come to a huge multi-storey car park (free of charge). The entrance to the parking house is from the bottom and goes up the hill (it is one-way). From here, it is only 150 meters to the information center and the bus station, which will take you through the tunnels a kilometer higher.

The bus starts and in a short time you disappear through a tunnel through which you will travel for long minutes. You will pass a number of underground junctions. Quite tedious work for drivers. You will leave the tunnel for a while at the lower Wasserfallbooden dam, so we will also have some nice views of the surrounding countryside. At the Fürthermoaralm you will definitely leave the tunnels and for the last three kilometers you will climb a mountain road with two curves to the dam of the Moserbooden dam. If you want to walk, count on 9 kilometers and more than 1100 meters of elevation gain

From the bus stop, tourists diverge in all directions – there are really plenty of possibilities. – The basic walk is, of course, along the dam with a small ascent to the Höhenburg viewpoint. – More interesting is the ascent to the Heinrich Schewaiger mountain hut, from where there is a beautiful view of both lakes.
