Grossglockner Hochalpenstrasse is the highest transit alpine road in Austria and one of the highest in the Alps. It winds over the ridge of the Hohe Tauern, Austria's highest mountain range. It connects the cities of Bruck and Heiligenblut. It is 48 km long with a maximum climb of 12%. It leads through two passes: Fuscher Törl (2,428m) and Hochtor (2,505m). There are also two more blind branches leading from it. The first, about a kilometer, to the Edelweisspitzi mountain (2,571 m), which the road culminates. Here the rise is up to 14%. The second, more than 10 km long, leads to the Franz-Josephs-Hohe hut (2,369 m), from where there is the best view of the Grossglockner and the Pasterze Glacier.
