A beautiful starting point for three thousand

At the end of the long Rauristal valley you will find a fairytale place – Kolm Saigurn. It is a starting point for the three well-known three-thousanders Hocharn (3,254 m above sea level), Hoher Sonblick (3,106 m above sea level) and Schareck (3,123 m above sea level). In addition to these ascents, you can also undertake less demanding hikes and walks. It is one of the most beautiful places in the Hohe Tauern
Road through the Rauristal valley
The road to the Rauristal valley starts in Taxenbach (760 m above sea level). Here you can also visit the beautiful Kitzlochklamm gorge. From Taxenbach, the road ascends to the small Rauriser Höhe pass (a short parking lot in front of it and a view of the Salzach Valley). Then you drive comfortably through a very wide valley up to 30 km long. The dominant feature of the valley is the breathtaking pyramid of Schareck (3,122 m).

Mautstraße Kolm-Saigurn
After about 40 minutes drive from Taxenbach you will reach the inn Bodenhaus (1,236 m), which is located at the beginning of the toll road Mautstraße Kolm Saigurn. There is also a parking lot (free of charge) for those who do not want to pay for the road and walk. The toll is 9E per car and it will definitely pay off. The toll road is more than 4 km long, it has 6 bends and saves 314 altitude meters and mainly leads all the way through the forest, so the views are zero. Going up and down a hiking trail is really useless

Parking Lenz Anger
For most, the ride ends in the large Lenz Anger car park (1,550 m above sea level). Further, behind the barrier, only accommodation in cottages around 1.5 km away, Kolm Saigurn (1,596 m), can be reached. From the parking lot, very close peaks of three thousand can be seen through the spruces.

Amazing Kolm Saigurn
After a few minutes walk from the car, you will get from the forest zone to a large alpine meadow and you will be really captivated by the view that is available here. From Kolm Saigurn, four 3,000 can be climbed on hiking trails, but the dominant feature of the place is definitely the mountain Hoher Sonnblick (3,106 m above sea level), on which the highest meteorological station in Austria is built. There are eight smaller waterfalls right in front of you.

Mountain views
The views are beautiful in all directions. It's just that mountain meadows always have a lot to do with it

Mountain meadows
The mountain meadows are also interesting thanks to the stray stones that have rolled here from the peaks. If you do not plan any larger tours, you will definitely enjoy just a walk to the farm at the end of the valley

Turning to Hocharn
If you are aiming for the three thousand Hocharn you will go on your way around the waterfalls. It is an easy route to them, so it is also suitable for hikers

Naturfreundehaus Kolm-Saigurn
Refreshments and accommodation are available at Naturfreundehaus Kolm-Saigurn

Romance under the mountains
If you plan to get to know the area better and have 2–3 proper ascents, it is ideal to stay in either the Naturfreundehaus Kolm-Saigurn or the adjacent Ammererhof
