The Liechtensteinklamm gorge on the Grossarlbach river (a tributary of the Salzach) is one of the longest and deepest accessible Alpine gorges. The rocks rise to a height of up to 300 meters. At the same time, according to many, it is also the wildest and most beautiful in Austria.

The beginning of the Lichtensteinklamm gorge

The path to the gorge is simple. To the south of the town of Sankt Johann im Pongau, there is a marked turnoff to the dead-end road to the gorge. There are several parking lots in front of it. It closes here at 6 p.m., and around five o'clock there aren't many tourists anymore. From the beginning of the walk, beautiful views into the depths of the gorge await you

Scenic route through the Lichtensteinklamm gorge

You walk here on safe bridges with railings, so don't expect an adventure like in Slovak Paradise, but nature is more dramatic here

The narrowest part of the gorge

This is followed by a section where the walls are really only a short distance from each other, so that the path had to go deep into the rock for the pavement. Subsequently, a few tunnels are also passed through.

Wilderness in the gorge

The gorge is really wild and it would be practically impossible to pass without those bridges

The way to the waterfall

Even the road can have a destination, and that is a nice waterfall from a side tributary in this gorge

Schleierwasserfall

Schleierwasserfall – Veiled waterfall. There are many such with the same name in Austria. This one is about 50 meters long and it is a nice end to the entire excursion route through the gorge, which rightfully belongs to the greatest attractions of this part of Austria.

There are a number of accommodation options in the vicinity of the gorge. Among the very beautiful are, for example, the Oberstockerhof with its amazing view.
