Mountains

Petr Liška Wrote 05.11.2015:

There are thousands of mountains in Ladakh – glaciated 7,000-meter peaks, weathered flat 5,000-meter hills or sharp rocky peaks. Only the main peaks here have a name. It is one of the few places in the world where very easily, if you are sufficiently acclimatized, you will reach heights of 5500–6000 meters above sea level without major technical difficulties. Highest mountains: The highest mountains of Ladakh lie far to the north in Karakoram. The highest mountain is Saltoro Kangri (K10) (7,742 m above sea level). However, it lies in a highly disputable area, which is also claimed by Pakistan, so many sources state as the highest mountain Ladakh Saser Kangri I (K22) (7,672 m above sea level) located more „inland“ near the village of Panamik. There are more than ten other 7,000 peaks in Karakoram, such as Marmostong Kangri, Teram, Rimo and others. Other important mountains: In the south of Ladakh, on the main Himalayan ridge, lie the 7,000 m Nun (7,135 m above sea level), Kun (7,077 m above sea level) and the slightly smaller Pinnacle peak (6,930 m above sea level). The highest peak of the Zanskar Mountains is Kang Yatse I (6,400 m above sea level). Lighter climbing peaks: these are peaks where you will usually need cats, but the actual ascent terrain is not very demanding. The most famous such mountain is Stok Kangri in the Stok Mountains or Kang Yatse II (6,200 m above sea level) in the Zanskar Mountains. Lungser Kangri (6,666 m above sea level) and Mentok Kangri are located near Lake Tso Moriri
