Srinagar (1,590 meters above sea level) in the very fertile Kashmir Valley is the center of this former principality. The main attraction here is the large Dal lake. It is a great starting point to the mountains, to the famous Kashmir Great Lake Trek or the journey through the Himalayas to Ladakh. Due to the higher altitude there is a more pleasant climate than in the southern parts of India, so a lot of local tourists come here to spend their holidays in the summer
