Jamia Masjid is considered to be the most important mosque in Srinagar. It was built in 1400 on the orders of Sultan Sikandar Shah, who ruled the Miri Shah dynasty between 1389 and 1413. The mosque was built in the traditional Peshawar (Perso-Mughal) style. The mosque has a spacious central hall with many pillars and four minarets. The interior is decorated with traditional Kashmiri designs and calligraphy. The mosque can accommodate up to 33,000 worshipers and is often full during prayers and holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
