The village Panikchar lies just a short distance from the place where river Suru radically changes its direction and turns sharply to the north. Its panorama is formed by beautiful six thousanders Nun and Kun and many other high Himalayan mountains. Surroundings of the village is one of the most beautiful what Suru valley, respectively western Ladakh offers. Except for the mountains, there are also beautiful green oases around the river. Trip to Panikchar is worthwhile even in the case you do not continue on further over Pensi la to Padum in Zanskar. 

Arrival to Panikharu

Panikhar is located on the main road connecting Kargil with Padum, so it is accessible from both places by public transport.

Day 1

Hike to Parkachik la

Hikes around Panikchar can be undertaken either as star-shaped with return back every day or as a single two-days lasting sightseeing tour. The first day definitely set out to the pass Parkachik la with the most beautiful view of Nun and Kun.

Day 2

Above Suru valley

The next day set out along the road from Panikchar to Tarangoz and thence ascend above the valley and enjoy panoramic views of the meander of the river Suru, and peak of Kun. Descend to Tongul and walk or hitchhike back to Panikchar. The hike can be extended by the ascent to the glaciers over Tongul. If you have decided for a circular way and crossed the pass Parkachik la to Parkachik, you'll walk back along the road to Tongul and walk the hike „reversely“.
