The island of Thassos, the northernmost island in the Aegean Sea, is small in size, but still offers a number of beautiful beaches. The most famous beaches of the island are located mainly on the eastern or southern side of Thassos. High mountains and hills covered with pine trees give them drama. In recent years, unfortunately, many well-known beaches have been literally surrounded by sunbeds, so somewhere you can hardly see the sand.

1.
Livadi beach

One of the most beautiful beaches on Thassos

Altitude: 2 m / 7 ft

Livadi is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches of Thassos. It is sandwiched between high cliffs and, thanks to the poorer access road, is also less visited. There is one small snack bar and a couple of umbrellas, but definitely don't expect crowds here like on other beaches in Thassos. The beach is also more stony, so other beaches on the island are more suitable for smaller children. continue reading

2.
Paradise Beach Thassos

A beautiful beach opposite the island of Kinira

Altitude: 3 m / 10 ft

Among the most famous beaches of the island of Thassos, Paradise definitely belongs. A beautiful beach surrounded by steep slopes covered with beautiful pine trees. The beach is sandy with waves, so children will definitely enjoy it here. Although the beach is vast – over 300 meters long – it is still very crowded. continue reading

3.
Porto Vathy beach

Marble beach

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

On the northeastern tip of the island of Thassos, you will find two „marble“ beaches that are only half a kilometer apart. Saliara (Marble Beach) and Porto Vathy. Both are famous for the incredibly white color of the pebbles, as it is the rubble of the famous Thassos marble. The beaches would be even nicer if their surroundings were not destroyed by mining. continue reading

4.
Golden Thassos beach

The longest beach on Thassos

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

In the northeast of Thassos you will find the longest beach here – Golden. It is famous for its pleasant sand and waves, in which children will win. The beach is also known for its backdrop – the island's highest mountains headed by Ypsarion. There are plenty of options for refreshments and accommodation at the beach. For some, the proximity to the capital, which is essentially „over the hill“ on the other side, is an advantage. The beach itself is almost three kilometers long. continue reading

5.
Metalia Beach

The most beautiful beach near Limenaria

Altitude: 1 m / 3 ft

Limenaria is the second largest town on Thassos, but not as busy as nearby Potos. The most beautiful beach here is called Metalia and you can find it to the east of the city. It is divided into two different parts by rocks. The larger one is organized with umbrellas and the smaller one is free and practically without people. Swimming is made slightly uncomfortable by the rock slabs near the shore. The beach is very photogenic from the cliffs on both sides. continue reading

6.
Alexandra Beach Thassos

Beautiful pebble beach near Potos

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

Just north of the resort of Potos you will find the beautiful pebble beach of Alexandra. Its southern part is adjacent to the more luxurious Alexandra Beach Spa Resort . There is a campsite right next to it. But there are plenty of options for parking if you only go here to swim. The best view of the beach is from the rock at its northern end. continue reading

7.
Notos beach

A beautiful little beach on Thassos

Altitude: 2 m / 7 ft

The famous beach of Notos can be found approximately less than three kilometers from the resort of Potos. It is a very photogenic beach, especially from a drone. Unfortunately, nowadays you will practically not see sand here because almost the entire beach is occupied by sunbeds and umbrellas. The beach has no official parking lot. I park my car by the side of the road. The descent to the beach is relatively steep. continue reading

8.
Vulos beach

Hard to reach beach

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

Vulos is one of the most beautiful small beaches on the island of Thassos. It is very difficult to get here by land. There are several ropes on the steep slope, but the entire slope is overgrown with thorny bushes and this route is probably minimally used. It is significantly easier to get here from San Antonio Beach by swimming – it is only about 100 meters. There is also a small rock cave at the end of the beach. continue reading

9.
Rosonkremos beach

The beach at the hotel resort

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

Rosonkremos beach is adjacent to the Royal Paradise Beach Resort & Spa . However, since all beaches in Greece are public, it is not a problem to get here. The beach itself is picturesque, but right next to the edge there are rocky slabs under the water, so there are entrances to the water through sandbags continue reading

10.
Climatsida Beach

A beach for privacy lovers

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

If you want to visit a beautiful beach on Thassos where you will most likely be alone, go to Climetsida. It is a beautiful little beach, about half a kilometer west of busy Pefkari. It's basically a secret tip that not many people know about. continue reading

11.
Pachis Beach

The most famous beach in the west of Thassos

Altitude: 2 m / 7 ft

The most famous beach in the west of Thassos is called Pachis. It is roughly half a kilometer long sandy beach. By the beach there are several beautiful massive pine trees with a background of high hills. The beach itself, especially in the southern part, is very organized. In the northern part, it is significantly calmer. continue reading

12.
Pefkari Beach

Busy beach behind Potos

Altitude: 1 m / 3 ft

The second beach north of Potos is called Pefkari. It is actually such a small resort because there are a number of accommodation and refreshment options. The beach is picturesque, but in several places there are rock plates right next to the shore continue reading

13.
Atspas Beach

A well-known beach in the west of Thassos

Altitude: 2 m / 7 ft

There are fewer beautiful beaches on the west side of Thassos than on the south or east. Among the most famous local beaches is Atspas, a beautiful cove in the small resort of Skala Maries. The beach itself lies in a beautiful bay resembling a small fjord. Unfortunately, as with a number of other beaches on Thassos, practically all of them are covered with umbrellas. continue reading

14.
San Antonio Beach

Beach by the rock with caves

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

At the very southern end of the bay near the town of Potos is San Antonio Beach (sometimes its southernmost part is also called Kamari Beach after the hotel of the same name). The beach is sandy towards Potos, but there are more stones on it. It is interesting due to the fact that it ends with a nice rock cliff in which there are several caves. You can also swim from there to the difficult-to-access beautiful beach of Vulos. continue reading

15.
Astris Beach

A quiet beach next to the overcrowded Psili Ammos

Altitude: 2 m / 7 ft

On the southernmost island of Thassos, there are several beaches next to each other. The most famous is Psili Ammos, but it is also terribly overcrowded. Those who want far more peace can stop a short distance away at the also very nice Astris beach. It is about 250 meters long and you will find both parasols and plenty of free space here. continue reading

16.
Astrid beach

Small beach near Psili Ammos

Altitude: 1 m / 3 ft

If you don't need large, expansive beaches and you prefer smaller bays, then Astrida beach will most likely suit your taste. It is only about 60 meters wide, half of which is occupied by parasols. The advantage is good accessibility – it is right next to the main road, which can be a disadvantage for some. continue reading

17.
Potos beach

Beach in Potos resort

Altitude: 0 m / 0 ft

Potos is the largest summer resort in the south of Thassos. The local beach is more than 600 meters long and is freely connected to the beach of San Antonio further to the south. The northern part of the beach adjacent to the harbor is heavily overcrowded. It is therefore worth going in a more southerly direction. The beach is mostly sandy. However, there are also sections with stones. continue reading

18.
Aliki Beach

The beach at the romantic peninsula

Altitude: 4 m / 13 ft

One of the most famous beaches of the island of Thassos is Aliki. It is a very narrow, overcrowded beach where you can hardly see the sand for umbrellas. In addition, it is parked far along the main road. Even so, it attracts a large number of visitors thanks to the adjacent peninsula with a walking circuit. continue reading

19.
Psili Ammos Thassos

A very crowded beach in Thassos

Altitude: 1 m / 3 ft

Psili Ammos beach is one of the most popular beaches in the south of the island of Thassos. Thanks to this, it is also one of the most crowded during the season. You will find nice sand here. The beach itself is less than 200 meters wide. For those who do not like such crowds, the adjacent Astris beach is a much better choice. continue reading
