The best of the beaches on the island of Lesbos
The island of Lesbos does not have as famous beaches as other Greek islands, but here you will find several very nice beaches that are worth a visit. Let's take a look at the most beautiful of them
Anaxos beach
Beach with windmill
The seven hundred meter long beach in Anaxos is one of the most beautiful on the island of Lesbos. It is mostly sandy, but in the sea you will also find a lot of pebbles, fortunately without a hedgehog. Its most famous landmark is a dummy windmill standing on a cliff at its north-eastern end. The beach has a nice view of the island and in the early evening there are beautiful sunsets. continue reading
Beach Kalo Limani
Beach at the end of the world
Small nice sandy beach Kalo Limani lies at the end of five kilometers long gravel road leading from the village Skalochori. Probably because of this fact there are usually very few tourists and the beach can be just yours. Oddly enough, there is also a small tavern. The only drawback are piles of seaweed that is not cleaned. continue reading
Petra beach
Beach with scenic views
The beach in Petra, located at the northern end of the bay, is one of the most picturesque that the island of Lesbos has to offer. From the beach there are beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and especially of the church of Panagia Glikophilousa towering on top of a rock above the old center of the picturesque village of Petra. continue reading
Beach Kampos
Almost deserted beach
Kampos beach is one of the largest beaches on Lesbos (measuring in length 1.7 kilometers). It is almost abandoned, mainly because there is no real road leading to it. Thanks to the water flowing down from the mountains is its surroundings pretty green and instead of the typical village you will find here only scattered houses of farmers. continue reading
Ampelia beach
Semi-deserted beach
Due to the fact that the almost half a kilometer long beach of Ampelia is accessible only by gravel road or on foot, it is relatively little visited – especially its northern part. It is therefore a suitable place for those who like half-empty, albeit slightly wilder beaches. In addition, the surroundings are quite picturesque. continue reading
Beach in Sigri
Beach overlooking the castle
Almost half a kilometer long, semicircular cove to the south of the town Sigri is home to one of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Lesbos. There is a nice sand as well as the wonderful views of both the nearby island Nissiopi that protects the local port, and especially of the Turkish fortress of Sigri. continue reading
Beach in Skala Eresou
Beach of poetess Sappho
Beach in Skala Eresou is one of the longest beaches on the island of Lesbos as it has almost two kilometers. It has quite a different character depending on which part of the beach you are. Longer western part of the beach stretching up to the great cliff is wide and virtually deserted. The eastern part following the town and busy taverns is narrow and busy. The sand is here, however, as in the most of the island, volcanic dark. continue reading
Beach Gavathas
Beach with a tank
Gavathas beach lies on the northwest coast of the island of Lesbos. There is not only nearly a kilometer long bay, but also the small town with the church and especially the biggest attraction – an old rusted tank pointing its main to neighboring Turkey. continue reading
Beach in Tavari
Swimming in the southwest of the island
There are several nice bays on the southwestern end of the island of Lesbos. One of them is Tavari, accessible by asphalt road from the town of Mesótopos. The local sandy-pebble beach is nearly half a kilometer wide and is ended by a small harbor on the west. There are also taverns and shops, but as ii is quite remote, there are not many tourists here. continue reading
