Vesely Kopec (lit. “Merry hill”) is a settlement of scattered interesting houses from 19th and 20th century taken here from various parts of Vysocina region (“the Highlands”). In addition, there are also technical water driven monuments (mill, oil room, iron mill). This short but very nice circuit will give you insight into life of farmers and craftsmen over a hundred years ago.

The restaurant U Kovare Mateje

Before you park, you will pass around the first timber building – restaurant U Kovare Mateje.

Landscape of Zdar Hills

From the parking place it is still almost 300 meters to the entrance of the open-air museum. Along the way, there is a state farm with a mess around with a view of the hilly landscape of Zdar Hills (part of the protected area).

First log cottages

After a few minutes of walking, you are finally at the entrance to the museum. You will see first a granary and farmhouse from Hlinecko (area around the town Hlinec), where admission fee is charged.

Historical bee hives

After a while, you will come to a short detour to small little cottages – the fruit dryer and linen dryer. More interesting, however, are old bee hives next door.

The descent to the river Chrudimka

After that you will go down to the river Chrudimka. Here are examples of technical water-powered monuments – saw, mill and oil room. Especially the old saw is very interesting.

Water mill

You are already in the halfway of the circuit at mill and now awaits you the ascend away from Chrudimka back to the hill.

Cottage from Heralec

The cottage from Heralec is built in a different style than most of the others in the open-air museum Vesely Kopec.

Interesting farmhouse from Mokra Lhota is the biggest building throughout the museum.

Small bellfry

The circle slowly closes and you will go back to the entrance around the small belfry. The tour around the museum is definitely worth it – interesting buildings spread in picturesque landscape.
