House of Štěpánek Netolický

The house on the square with a preserved Renaissance layout is named after one of the most important figures in the history of Czech fish farming – Štěpánek Netolický. He acquired the house at the beginning of the 16th century (around 1518) from the Rosenbergs themselves as a reward for his loyal services. He had the Netolický house rebuilt in the then modern Renaissance style.

Golden sewer

The Golden Canal, which runs around the historic core of the city, is a unique historical water canal in the Třeboň Basin, built between 1508 and 1518, which supplies and drains water from the Lužnice River into an extensive network of ponds. In addition to pond farming, it was also used in the past for floating wood, defending Třeboň, and supplying water. Today, it is a popular destination for hiking and cycling trips.

City fortifications

Originally, the city was fortified with palisades and ditches, which were replaced by stone walls in the 14th century. Subsequently, in the years 1525–27, a late Gothic fortification was built, which was improved over the years. At the end of the 19th century, the importance of the fortifications decreased and it was partially demolished. The remains of the city walls from the 13th century with four gates – Budějovická, Hradecká, Svinenská and Novohradská have been preserved.
