Genius loci near Pond World
The Schwarzenberg tomb is located in the Třeboň park near the Svět pond. The tomb was founded by John Adolf II. Schwarzenberg. One of the stimuli for the construction of the tomb was the death of his wife, Princess Eleonora, on July 27, 1873. Construction began in 1874. On July 29, 1877, the tomb was consecrated by Bedřich Schwarzenberg.

The original design of the building was designed by the prominent Austrian architect Friedrich von Schmidt. Damasus Deworezky – a Schwarzenberg builder who took part in the reconstruction of the Hluboká chateau – further modified the project according to local issues.

The neo-Gothic mausoleum of the Schwarzenbergs has an octagon floor plan.

The monumental portal is accessible by a two-armed staircase. Under the stairs is the entrance to the lower part of the tomb.
