The wide Ziller Valley in the south is closed by the town of Mayrhofen. From here you can take a pleasant half-day walk combined with the ascent of the Stillupklamm gorge along a wild mountain river.

Zillertal

Many layers of clouds cover the hills and mountains that surround the Zillertal valley in the morning.

Hippach

About 5 km before the end of the wide Zillertal valley is the picturesque town of Hippach. It includes not only the center around the church, but also other buildings and farms up to a height of 2762 meters above sea level

Mayrhofen

The town with almost 4,000 inhabitants lies at the end of the Zillertal valley and is the starting point of the path to the waterfalls.

Waterworks in the Zillertal

On the west side of the city we pass a hydroelectric power plant. According to Cimrman's Dictionary of Instruction, published at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, however, it is „pflaume und birne schnaps brennerei“. Slivovice and hruškovice are distributed through large pipelines to the surrounding valleys.

Stilluppbach

Right behind the power plant, the road begins to rise. Gradually we pass the individual cascades of waterfalls on the river Stilluppbach.

Waterfall

In rainy and humid weather, the road is sometimes very slippery.

Rock walls

The steep end of the narrow path leads us to the rock walls, from where we gradually move away from the bed of the mountain river.

Forests

The trail leads to a wide path, which we take to the forest back to Mayrhofen.

Gentiana

There are many species of gentian, I don't know them, but this one is waiting for us at the edge of the forest. It reminds me a bit of the Krkonoše ones. But is it really him?

Mayrhofen

After descending through the forest, Mayrhofen reappears on its edge, the beginning and finish of this circuit.
