The Karl-von-Edel-Hütte is a springboard for conquering the iconic Ahornspitze mountain. Even the very exit to the cottage is very attractive.

Hippach

Our starting point is the town of Hippach: a quiet place to spend a holiday in the Ziller Valley.

Ziller

The river Ziller is the axis of the whole valley. Not a cloud over the morning mountains, it will be a nice day.

Zillertal

From Mayrhofen we use the cable car Ahornbahn. Gradually, the Ziller Valley opens below us.

Ahornlodge

The cable car effectively gets us to a height of 1970 m. There are several restaurants and accommodation.

Details of mountain walls

The surroundings of the upper station of the cable car are worth a visit. From here we can study the details of the surrounding mountains in the form of stone walls, stream beds and steep stands or meadows.

Zillertal Alps

Behind the deep valley of Stilluppbach is a ridge of sharp peaks, which extend to a height of 2700 to 3000 m.

Ahornspitze

We continue along the Berliner Höhenweg. This is an alpine path that connects the individual chalets of the Alpenverein in the western part of the Zillertal Alps. A beautiful view of the Ahornspitze (2976 m above sea level) opens up to us.

Follenbergbach

We jump over the waters of the stream and slowly approach the cottage.

Karl-von-Edel-Hütte

At an altitude of 2238 meters above sea level is our goal today. The cottage can accommodate up to 80 guests (30 beds, the rest shared dormitory – camp). There is a wonderful view. We admire the local modernized chicken coop: satellite TV, private LAN, WiFi, category 6 cabling. But it must be eggs!

Descent

The alternative back to the cable car is alternatively a steep serpentine just below Karl-von-Edel-Hütte.

Hochleger

We pass an older hut, a nice place overlooking the valley, in half an hour we are back at the top station Ahornbahn.

Ahornspitze

In the evening, we watch from Hippach as the mountain under which we were today says goodbye to us that day in the last rays of the sun.
