Three cable cars to a height of 3220 m
Hintertux is Austria's only year-round ski area. In addition to winter fun, you can enjoy a fascinating view of the endless sea of alpine peaks, in the lower part you can also walk through the alpine meadows under the Tux Glacier.
Sommeberg
The first part of the cable car (Gletscherbus 1) leads from Hintertux to Sommeberg. From here there is a nice view of Grosse Kaserer (3263 m above sea level), somewhat overshadowing the higher Olperer (3476 m above sea level).
Olperer
The second and third part of the cable car takes us to the Gefrorene Wand to a height of 3220 m. Opposite us is the majestic peak Olperer (3476 m).
Fun on top
Not only children enjoy winter fun here even in the middle of summer.
Schlegeispeicher
South below us, the Schlegeisspeicher reservoir (1800 m above sea level) is supplied by the Schlegeiskees glacier. Italy is still lying.
Alps
From this height there is a really fantastic circular view of the endless peaks of the Alps from horizon to horizon.
Slope
Lovers of winter sports also enjoy the summer (ski slope under the wall of Mount Olperer).
Sommerberg
Farmhouses and cottages Sommerberg from the cable car.
Landscape under the glacier
We stop for a walk around Sommerberg and admire the waterfalls on the mountain streams Schwarzbrunnerbach and Kleiner Kunerbach.
Guardian of the mountains
A local mountain ranger is watching us from his underground suite. But we don't give him a biscuit.
Reward
After such a quick change in the significant height difference, we continue the tasting activities of selecting the best of Austrian winemaking.
