From Hippach to the Zillertaler Höhenstraße there is a shuttle bus to the Melchboden terminus at 2 km. From here, there is a nice hiking trail with wonderful views of the Zillertal Alps.

Hippach

The bus line to Melchboden starts in neighboring Mayrhofen. We board in the center of Hippach.

Zillertaler Höhenstraße

The bus climbs the serpentines of a narrow road and miraculously avoids oncoming tractors and cars. It is almost an adrenaline ride, during which there is a beautiful view of the valley below us.

Valley

Below us are valleys, meadows and farms, all interwoven with a network of roads.

Rauhenkopf

We continue climbing to Rauhenkopf (2258 m above sea level). The more distant peaks of the Alps also appear.

Aeronaut

The meadow behind the top of Rauhenkopf is used by these daredevils, who entrust themselves to the air currents and throw themselves towards adventurous views.

Ponds

The road continues through relatively flat terrain around mountain lakes, then climbs to other peaks with the dominant mountain Marchkopf (2499 m).

Zillertal Alps

We return the same way. However, the surrounding mountains still offer new views as the clouds change and the lighting changes with the sun advancing through the alpine sky.

Rastkogelhütte

The nearest mountain hut in the area is Rastkogelhütte, run by the German Alpenverein. There is a separate road from Melchboden.

Ahornspitze

The bus masterfully transports us back to Hippach through narrow serpentines. In the evening we watch the light changes of our favorite mountain.
