It is the highest road in Slovenia. A former military road built in the late 1930s in Italy, which was modified in the 1980s to open to tourists. It is a popular motorcycle paradise. The human road takes him up to a height of 2065 m above sea level to a place called Mangartsko sedlo.

Road to Mangart

The highest road in Slovenia

The trip to Mangart or Mangart Road is a popular destination for all bikers, cyclists and all those who like exceptional scenery. The road, built in the late 1930s by Italy, served as a military strategic target. In the 80's, however, it underwent a change and some sections widened, making this 5-euro road accessible to tourists. It has 17 sharp turns and there are 5 tunnels. We only passed two. The road is really narrow in some places and two cars can hardly avoid it. Sometimes centimeters were waiting for us to fall off a cliff. Unfortunately, I desert everyone, so we also met a caravan here. The road is surprisingly low. Its elevation is huge. On the 12 km road there is an elevation gain of 1000 meters. There are several stops along the way, where you can stop and look at the views. As well as on the loop at the very top. Where many set out to conquer the 3rd highest peak of Trichlavský park, Veliki Mangart 2679 m above sea level. There is also the Italian-Slovenian border, so I am one step in two states at once. The views here are really beautiful and I can recommend to everyone.
