March across the Bohemian Ridge
One of the easiest tours from Špindlerův Mlýn, suitable for children and the elderly, is a trip by cable car to Medvědín and from there a march to Vrbatova bouda. Great views await you both in the Krkonoše Mountains and in the main Krkonoše ridge. You will also see Sněžka.
View of the Elbe dam
The cable car to Medvědín will save you 500 altitude meters for the price of CZK 250 (the return trip is CZK 320). Initially, it climbs a spruce forest with no views. In time, however, a beautiful view of the Elbe dam and a long stretch with the famous Žalý peak opens up.
Medvědín top station of the cable car
After about ten minutes drive you are at the top station of the cable car.
Hilltop
The area around the top looks like a large relaxation zone. Thanks to the attractions for children, you will also meet a lot of families here.
Views of the Giant Mountains from Medvědín
The views from Medvědín are absolutely great – including the view of the highest mountain in the Czech Republic, Sněžka.
View of the Golden Hill
The path from the cable car to the red tourist sign is comfortable and absolutely obvious. The Golden Hill (1,411 m above sea level) will rise in front of you
View of the High Wheel
The surroundings of the road are wooded, but occasionally there is a view of the main Krkonoše ridge with Vysoké kolo and Violík. Deep below you is the Elbe Mine.
Road on wooden rafts
Thanks to the flat profile of the beginning of the journey, there are also small peat bogs and a comfortable journey is possible only thanks to wooden rafts.
Bear at Šmíd's prospect
You will find seating and nice views at Šmíd's viewpoint. There is also a wooden teddy bear.
Crossroads by a mountain road
After about 15–20 minutes you are at the crossroads of the tourist route with the road leading from Horní Mísečky to Vrbatová bouda. From here, the tourist traffic will condense again. From here you will be accompanied by views of Kotel (1,435 m above sea level)
The road under the Golden Hill
The road leads just below the rocky ridge of the Golden Hill.
Distant views to the west
In these places there are beautiful distant views of the Giant Mountains and the hills in the Giant Mountains.
View of the Boiler
The dominant peak of this walk is Kotel, a typical mountain recognizable from almost all lookout points in the Giant Mountains.
Vrbatova bouda
After less than an hour from Medvědín, you are at Vrbatova bouda. Some tourists start trips around the Giant Mountains from here, thanks to the bus line from Horní Mísečky.
Vrbatovo hill
The final of this tour is a short ascent to Vrbatovo hill (1,415 m above sea level) with a perfect circular view.
Circular view of the Giant Mountains
Already on the way up to Vrbatovo hill you will have a wonderful circular view of the Krkonoše Mountains with Sněžka on the horizon
View of the Eastern Giant Mountains
The entire Eastern Giant Mountains are in the palm of your hand, including the tourist place Špindlerovka
View of the Elbe mine
The view of the main ridge and the Elbe mine is perfect. Below you, one of the most popular routes in the Krkonoše Mountains above Labský dol leads to the source of the Elbe and further to the ridge.
Road to Harrach's stones
Alternatively, you can continue to the springs of the Elbe through Harrachovy kameny. If you had this tour just as a short walk, the same way back to Medvědín awaits you.
