Tourism between the Czech and Silesian ridges
The most beautiful circuit in the Giant Mountains is in the vicinity of mountain meadows connecting the Bohemian and Silesian Giant Mountains ridge. Outside the source of the Elbe, you can see the Elbe Mine or the Snow Pits. In a short time, you will see a number of beautiful places. The circuit itself is about 10 km and an elevation gain of 400 meters.
Beginning at Vrbatova bouda
This tour can be taken from a number of places, but I will describe it from Vrbatova bouda, which is the easiest way out. From Vrbatova bouda, or from the region of this tour, there are beautiful views of both Sněžka and Vysoké Kola, where we are headed. The so-called Buchar's path, marked in red, is slowly descending and we pass several bunkers and Hanč's mound
Views of the Elbe mine
The first super attraction of this circuit awaits you when you descend to the edge of the Elbe mine. The Pančava stream is the highest waterfall in the Czech Republic. The views of the surrounding cliffs are amazing. At the bottom of the cannon he calmly meanders the Elbe
Pančavský waterfall
On this hike you can see the Pančava waterfall only from the top. It is 148 high, but thanks to the fact that Pančava is not very watery, it is not so impressive even from below.
View of Labská bouda
The path continues practically along the edge of the Elbe mine and after a while the Elbe hut is in front of you.
Elbe hut and Elbe waterfall
In the Elbe hut you can refresh yourself and take a short walk to the Elbe waterfall located in the dramatic surroundings of the rocky Elbe gorge. It is an important crossroads, because another beautiful hiking trail leading through the Elbe mine ends here
Ascent to the main Krkonoše ridge
Now you have about half an hour's ascent to the main Krkonoše ridge along the yellow-marked, so-called Horse Road. It is probably the least interesting part of the whole tour
At the Stone Well
However, the beautiful place is just before the end of the ascent. A few tens of meters from the hiking trail is the Stone Well. You can replenish your water here and enjoy the beautiful views.
Wawel
In front of you is the highest point of this tour and the so-called Wawel. Here you get to Poland
Snow pits
Snow pits is one of the biggest attractions of the Giant Mountains. Remnant of the ice age. Minor attractions are the stones – Krakonoš pulpit right next to Wawel. From here we set off for a while along the ridge
Ridge along Violík
We will walk along the ridge only about 1.5 kilometers along a wide comfortable path. We will pass Violík (1,472 m above sea level), which is officially banned from entering due to lichen protection. But a lot of people don't respect that
View back to Violík and Wawel
About 400 meters from Violík we reach a place called Česká budka, where we leave the ridge and slowly descend to the source of the Elbe. We still have beautiful views of Violík and Wawel
The source of the Elbe
The source of the Elbe lies just south of the main ridge. There are a lot of people here most of the day, especially in nice weather. If you want to have some peace here, go on this tour later. The spring is rather symbolic, the real one is a few tens of meters away in the meadow.
Coats of arms of cities at the source of the Elbe
An interesting feature at the source of the Elbe is the wall showing the flow of the river through all major cities. There are also significant tributaries of the river
Road from the source of the Elbe
From this point of view, it is beautiful to see what awaits us now – the crossing of the plateau back to the Bohemian Ridge. On the left you can see Vrbat's hill, where we started – in the middle Harrach's stones and on the far right Kotel. It is about 2.5 kilometers easy walk
Road to Růžena's garden
The road runs fast and you still have beautiful views of both ridges and Sněžka in the distance. Slightly in the middle is the U Čtyř pánů crossroads, where you could take the yellow shortcut back to Vrbatova Hill, but you would lose a few more interesting things, so it's better to continue to the U Růženčiny zahrádky crossroads
View of the Boiler
From the U Růženčiny zahrádky crossroads, the road ascends in the direction of Harrachovy kameny. You will also pass an unmarked footpath towards the bunkers and to the top of the Boiler. Quite often, conservationists move here and catch tourists who go after it
Harrach's stones
Harrachovy kameny (1,421 m above sea level) is a flat peak dotted with granite rocks. There are great views from here, practically the whole Giant Mountains. Vrbat's hill is already in sight, where we end this beautiful round
Road to Vrbatovo hill
From Harrachovy kameny, only a short and comfortable descent to Vrbatovo vrch (1,415 m above sea level) awaits us, from where there is also a pretty view, especially to a large part of the main ridge.
