Davle - Kamenny Privoz

The starting point of this trip is in Davle, a small town situated near Vltava river accessible both by bus and train from Prague. Just beyond the road bridge there is the confluence of Vltava with Sazava and therefore start/end of the Posazava trail.

On the west bank of the Vltava river, in the center of town, there is the bus stop – the trains stop on the other side. Beautiful iron bridge is now only for pedestrians and cyclists. The confluence of the rivers is in 205 meters above sea level and under favorable circumstances you can see how each river has a different color – Sazava is browner.

The typical character of the landscape – the slopes sharply rise almost directly from the river, a rock or holiday cottage occasionally peeks out.

The first part of the hike from the confluence of the rivers leads through the recreation area, which is a paradise more for fishermen and river vacationers rather than for a variety of views. That is why most tourists do not start the hike in Davle, but at the train stop in Petrov u Prahy (i.e. about 3.5 km farther). There is a small islet covered with quite photogenic trees nearby to this stop.
 

At the railway station Petrov u Prahy tourists pass over the bridge to the other side of Sazava to the outskirts of the village Pikovice. The path leads from here not only along the red trail, but also along the educative trail Mednik named after the hill Medník (417m asl), which is more than 200 meters above the river level. So tourists can learn a lot of interesting information here (e.g. about river Sazava,  Posazavsky Pacific, scree forests, gold mining, etc.). The educative trail is circular, but most people walk unfortunately only half of it leading along the river.

There is a view of perhaps the most famous czech railway track – Posazavsky Pacific from some places. It took many years before all the tunnels, bridges and viaducts were built in the Sazava canyon. It is a nice alternative option for those, who want to see Posazavi and for various reasons they cannot walk here.
 

Just opposite the famous rock formation Pikovicka jehla (= Pikovice´s needle) there are river rocks that almost invite tourists to have a rest and well-deserved snack here.

A pretty nice rocky formation originated when building Posazavsky Pacific – Pikovicka jehla (= Pikovice´s needle). It happened when the railway separated part of the rock from the rest of the massif. Now the rocky spike looks down from more than 60 meters above the river.

On the way you can see even small rapids.

Another half an hour tourist go in picturesque countryside dotted with recreational cottages situated in perfect location overlooking the river. Great romantic atmosphere :-). Each season of the year has its own charm here – early spring is a bit colorless, but there are far more views than in the main season, when it is hard to see through the lush vegetation. Interesting are also the passages where the slope had to be incredibly strengthened in order to disable Posazavsky Pacific get down into the canyon.

We recommend slow down a little in here as it is the most beautiful part of this trip.
 

Is it possible to find a better place for a hut than here?

The path gradually rises to Kliment´s outlook and then there are far less interesting passages through the woods up to the Rais´s outlook.
 

Rais´s outlook point is rather disappointing, because you cannot see much over the overgrown woods. Not far behind is the crossroads under Trebsin. You need to decide here whether finish the trip and walk the last five kilometers along the Sazava to Kamenny Privoz , or continue over the hills to the Vltava river valley and come to Slapska prehrada (Slapy´s dam) by seeing a lot of interesting outlooks on the way.

Far across the river you can also see a part of the most famous building of Posazavsky Pacific – huge Zampassky viaduct.

The path is then neither very interesting nor there are many outlooks. The essential point is about 100 meters behind Zampassky ferry. The marked hiking trail turns uphill to inland here and continues to Kamenny Privoz along the busier road. If there is not higher level of the river, it is better to go down the path along the river. The path is significantly more pleasant and nice here. Kamenny Privoz offers some refreshment possibilities and there is a bus station and a little further also train station.
