The best part of Posazava trail (= around river Sazava) is located near the confluence of river Sazava with much bigger Vltava river. Deep picturesque canyon is lined with huts and cabins laid on the beautiful outlooks high above the water. This entire part is popular not only by hikers, but also by paddlers. It is only 13km from Davle to Kamenny Privoz, so it's a pleasant half-day trip. continue reading

A beautiful, undemanding 8 km long walk near Prague is a walking trail lining the Konopišť brook. The journey begins at the Konopiště chateau and ends in Poříčí nad Sázavou. A tour of the Sázava Monastery
The third oldest male monastery in Bohemia
The Sázava Monastery was founded in the 11th century. Prince Oldřich and the hermit Prokop were the main contributors to his birth. At that time, the monastery was the center of the Old Slavonic liturgy. In 1096, the local monks were expelled, the monastery was taken over by the Benedictines from Břevnov, and since then only the Latin liturgy has been cultivated here. The monastery was abolished in 1785 and its buildings (except the church) were rebuilt into a castle. continue reading

The first mention of Ratají nad Sázavou is from 1156, when there was a log-brick castle. The owners changed here very often. In 1420, Rataj was acquired by Hynek Ptáček from Lipá and Pirkštejn, who was the guardian of little Jiří of Poděbrady. In 1531, Rataj was owned by Ladislav of Malešice and began construction of a Renaissance chateau. In 1656 another reconstruction took place into its current form. Since 1933, the chateau has been bought by the municipality and a school has been established there. Now the castle is under reconstruction, but open to the public. continue reading

An option that only occurs one day a year
The chamber castle was built by Rack Kobyla from Dvorec in 1412 as a replacement for the conquered Čejchanov castle. In 1525 it was listed as desolate and in this condition it was bought by Jaroslav of Šelmberk. Jaroslav was the highest chamberlain – hence the name Chamber Chamber. In 1554, Jan of Valdštejn acquired the castle. which rebuilt it into a Renaissance chateau. After that, the castle was rebuilt many times in its current form. Twelve kilometer long walk from Porici to Tynec nad Sazavou leads most of the time along the Posazavska trail with the opportunity to see both mentioned towns, but also ruin Zboreny Kostelec. It is far not as famous as the route from the mouth of the Sazava to Kamenny privoz, but it's still quite nice trip, even though the route is more suitable for bikes mainly due to longer road passages. continue reading
