Across the sea from Malaysia to Thailand

If you want to go from Malaysia to Thailand, there is also an interesting option to do it by boat and visit two interesting areas – Langkawi and Ko Lipe. The speedboat ride only takes an hour and a half. However, due to border procedures, it is almost a half-day trip.
Telaga Harbor
Ko Lipe departs from Telaga Harbor, which is located essentially at the northwestern end of Langkawi. It is about a 25-minute drive from the main tourist town of Pantai Cenang. You have to be quite early here, because you will have to go through border procedures. It is relatively unpleasant that you will also hand in your passports here, which you will only receive in Thailand.

Lighthouse and mountains
It is better to sit on the right side of the ship if you want to enjoy the views of the beautiful mountains and the famous cable car.

Mount Machinchang (708 m)
From the boat you can see the most beautiful part of Langkawi – the coastal mountains with the famous peak of Gunung Machinchang (708 m), which is reached by a famous cable car – TOP attraction on Langkawi

At Koh Lipe
After Langkawi disappears on the horizon, the boring part of the journey through the open sea begins. There is a movie playing on the boat, so you can watch it or try to fall asleep. Sometimes it is hot on the boat, sometimes the air conditioning is too much, so it is better to have some clothes in reserve. Finally, we are at Ko Lipe. It is a very flat island, so the hill on the horizon is another island – Ko Adang, where I definitely recommend taking at least a half-day trip.

Moving to shore
Since it is very shallow here, the speedboat is anchored relatively far from the shore. Tourists are transported to the local longtail boats that can accommodate about ten people. You do not need to take large luggage, the crew will bring it to the shore independently.

At the customs office
The customs office is located right on the famous Pattaya Beach. There is quite a chaos here, because both those who have just arrived and those who are about to depart are hanging around. This explains why they took your passports, if not, you could get up and leave the beach on your own – this way you will have to wait a long time, when the attendant calls out names – then he gives you a passport and you go to the customs officer. Finally, you go a little further, where you have to pay the entrance fee to the national park – the traditional Thai „fire fee“, because of course Ko Lipe does not look like a national park. When you have everything taken care of, you can finally go to your accommodation, either on foot or by tuk tuk. And hurray to the beach
