In the old part of Karakol, north of the main street Toktogul, you will find a number of historic cottages from the Tsarist era. You will see both simple houses and formerly luxurious buildings of rich merchants. Their tour is certainly a pleasant change from the monumental socialist monuments that Kyrgyzstan is teeming with.
