Mexico Meals

Mexican cuisine is a little different than tourists are usually accustomed to from their homes. Above all, it does not need to be necessarily spicy. It is based mainly on beans, corn and chili peppers, countless types of tortillas, various sauces and salsas. You can find these components on a plate with almost every meal. Typical are also olives, capers and tomatoes.
Starters
For Mexico are typical so-called antojitos („little goodies“). It can be just a canapé, but also a bigger food like:
- Tortas („sandwich“)
- Enchilladas („roasted and wrapped tortillas topped with sauce“)
- Burritos („stuffed wheat tortilla“)
- Tacos ("mostly corn small tortilla "), which forms part of meal called Fajitas
The popular delicacies in some regions of Mexico (such as in Cholula) are:
- caterpillars Guzanos living on the leaves of agave plants
- meadow grasshoppers Chapilines.
Typical main dishes
- Especially in coastal areas people often consume fish, shrimp and other seafood.
- Favorites are also egg dishes („huevos“) and there are hundreds of ways to cook them.
- Chicken and chips, a variety of steaks and sauces with rice.
Desserts and Sweets
Bakeries in Mexico are absolutely amazing – the offer is great and sweets almost tempt you to come in.
Cold soft drinks
- There is a wide range of fresh juices in the offer.
- In some places you can even have coconut milk straight from the coconut.
Beer
The most typical alcoholic beverages in Mexico are beer („cerveza“) Corona, Sol or Michelada („drink of beer and lime juice“).
Spirits
Tequila or mezcal are most famous mexican spirit (both are produced in a similar manner from agave, but tequila comes only from a defined area around the town of Tequila).
Mixed alcoholic drinks
People usually drink cocktails as pinna colada and daiquiri in the bars.
Fast Foods
You can also find here the network of fast food restaurants such as McDonald's or KFC. But going there for a meal here in Mexico is almost a sin.
Food on the street
- Streets are constantly full of salesmen, because Mexicans love this way of eating (and food in general). You can buy here the above mentioned antojitos, fresh juices or delicious mostly fried sweets.
- In nearly every market there is a part designed as a restaurant – you can have good and cheap food here.
