Visit to a green tea factory
Green tea and its processing process
Finlays is a green tea factory near the town of Ella in Sri Lanka. A visit to the factory is an excellent diversion with trips to the surrounding tea gardens and mountains.
Road to the factory
The factory is located near the road from the village of Ella. The best way to get here is to rent fat, which will be happy to take you here and even wait for you for the next trip. It is also possible to rent a scooter and travel here on your own or take a walk.
Tea processing
The opening hours to the factory must be verified in advance, as it may happen that you will be closed to the public. Check this either on the internet or from local people. During the tour you will taste green tea, you will see the whole process of making green tea and you can also buy tea.
Tea distribution
You don't see the production of green tea in Sri Lanka so often. Black tea is mainly produced here. As for green tea, it comes in two forms „Sencha“ and „Gundpowder“. In this factory, they process a total of about 8 types, which differ mainly in the size of the leaves of the final product.
Tea packaging
Packing tea in huge bags that travel to a worldwide supply network.
Processing of tea leaves
The processing of tea leaves in the Sencha type into narrow needles and in the Gunpowder type into small roll balls – hence the name „Gunpowder“.
The final product
Different types of tea and leaf sizes supply different colors of tea and also different ratios of tea strength. You can buy individual products – the price is very advantageous for us. For me, they recommend taking the Gundpowder type with the finest ball size, which is strong and distinctive in taste.
Tea in its original form
Tea plantations are all around the factory and the whole village of Ella. You can walk here and it is an amazing relaxation.
