Ukulhas as a so-called „local“ island is not just for tourists, but locals normally live here, so there are classic amenities such as mosques, a football field, a small hospital and of course a number of shops, a market with both fruit and vegetables and fish. The streets are sandy – you will practically not find asphalt or paving stones here. Accommodation facilities are mostly on the western side of the island by the beautiful beach here.

Ukulhas Harbour

This is where everything starts and ends. There are actually two of them on Ukulhas, right next to each other. The larger one is for cargo ships and speedboats, and the smaller one is for fishermen and travel agencies. From here, boats set off on trips with tourists

Fish catches

In the small harbor you can see the fishermen's catches

Feeding sharks

A pretty big attraction for tourists is the evening feeding of sharks – Nurse Sharks. The place is under the lamp in the corner of the harbor, see GPS coordinates

Fruit and vegetable market

Just a few meters away is a nice fruit and vegetable market. If you want some bananas for a snack, you can get them here cheaper than in the supermarket.

Local players

If you are interested in how Maldivians live, a local island is the place to be – you won't see that at a resort.

Transportation around the island

The island is so small (a kilometer long and less than 300 meters wide), you can get anywhere in a few minutes. Even so, almost everyone has a scooter and rides around. For tourists, there are electric carts to transport luggage from the port to their hotels.

The alleys of Ukulhas

In a way, there is a system of rectangular streets – 4 main streets in length and much more in width. If you want, it is probably not a big problem to walk through all the streets on the island :-) The streets have a sandy surface. The sidewalks are paved

What you will find here

Of course, fish in the sea, but also crabs, various lizards and iguanas. There are even Macaw parrots flying around here – but they are not native here, and also large bats.

Other places on the island

There are more than ten restaurants on the island, so you probably won't have time to try them all. Also interesting is the football field, which takes up quite a lot of space on such a small island. There are also several mosques, playgrounds and a fitness center. Of course, tourists mainly come here for swimming.
