I consider this area right after the Oslava and Jihlava valleys to be one of the most picturesque in the vicinity of Brno. Personally, I like trips along rivers, in the shade of the forest, meadows and wells in the ferns. The Czechia is rich in similar localities, but not everywhere you can taste beer from the Balónový pivovar on the way, visit the Western town or sleep in the ruins. In addition, you will go almost alone all the time, but you will definitely not feel abandoned, thanks to the villages that cross the road.

Day one - the right adventure begins by train

Brno - Sklené nad Oslavou

On Saturday we get on the train (it's a nice change and it's also more Čundrácké) and we take a ride to Sklená nad Oslavou, where we follow the red tourist sign towards Bobrová. In Radešín, we are pleasantly surprised by the Balloon Brewery right by the pond. We are not hungry (just thirsty), so I just glance at the menu and it is clear to me that I am not here for the last time. Just because of the tempting offer of local beer specialties.

On the way to Radešín

We get through the fields and meadows into the forest (if you are lucky, mushrooms grow in it) and we make a stop at the Balónový pivovar

We continue

Bobrová - Western town Šiklův mlýn - ruins of the castle Mitrov

From Radešín we continue along the red road, through Bobrová (where there is a pilgrimage), to Šiklov mlýn (www.sikland.cz). The road leads mostly through fields and meadows and since it is the beginning of summer, everything is in full bloom and blossom. The mill is just getting ready to open, there is only one private event, where unfortunately they do not pour us beer, so we will use at least soaked swimming pools. I feel like in Balaton after the season, but I don't mind at all that no one is here.

From Bobrová to Šiklov mill

The road gradually turns left across the field to a smaller grove, where I found a beautiful mushroom carol. You can come to Šiklov mill either via Olešínky, where you will go further along the red at the Olešín bridge with a signpost, or like us, from the bridge to the blue along the river and cross the bridge from the other end of the complex.

Western town

The busy program takes place here every day during the season and you can see an exclusive show in the natural amphitheater, from shootings, train rides, archery to horse riding lessons and much more. There is no shortage of accompanying programs and events. Here you will find period shops, a café, bars and more. In addition to the western town, you will find an aqua park, a zoo, a 17 m high wooden lookout tower with a view of the area and its surroundings, an off-road and military zone. The complex is open to the public in the summer season.

Well in the fern

when we got enough of the Western town, we continue along the blue along Bobrůvka with a walk to the well, which is very well hidden.

The ruins of the castle Mitrov - our destination today

After about 24 km we are there

Mitrov is a castle ruin, which lies 2 km southeast of the town of Strážek, in the district of Žďár nad Sázavou. The remains of a smaller castle complex are spread over a narrow rocky outcrop surrounded by the river Bobrůvka. The castle was built by Demeter of Buková. The castle has been preserved only torsionally, yet the remains of walls and deep moats are preserved. The big advantage is about 500m distant Forest Pension Podmitrov, where you can eat and drink or sleep.

Day two - we continue to Trenck's gorge

In the morning we will have breakfast in the Forest Pension with a slight shower and when it stops, we will follow the red, Baron's path. All the time we go through the forest and the gorge with the cut river Bobrůvka. The rocks are covered with moss and ferns, the cascades rustle nicely. There is a large fireplace in the gorge itself and waterfalls a short distance away – if there is enough water. Although no sign leads to the waterfalls of Trenck's gorge, the path to them is groomed, trampled and a rope is attached to the rocks for support. In the summer there was only a ditch, it is better to come here after some heavier rains, but it is again a gorge less accessible.

The road from Trenckova rokle is one of the most beautiful hiking trails around Brno. A moment by the river Loučka, a moment on a slope above the river. On the slope we have various obstacles in the form of fallen trees, sloping rocks and various elevations. However, be careful – in winter, for snow cover, I would not recommend this part of the trip in any case. The road is really on a slope, in addition to places on a smooth rock, in combination with snow it is quite dangerous. Unexpectedly, there are two seasonal restaurants and guest houses in the village, I only have experience with the Šafránek mill, to which the road from Drahonín leads.

Why Trenck's Gorge?

Reputation

During the reign of Maria Theresa, Austria-Hungary was defended against attack by the Turks by an army of Cops led by Baron František Trenck. In addition to defending, however, the Pandas also robbed, looted and murdered innocent citizens. Maria Theresa was forced to issue an order to capture the baron and bring him to Vienna. The Baron and his three officers fled, hiding in an unknown place. At that time, an herbalist from Drahonín used to go to this gorge for rare medicinal plants. As he descended to the bottom of the gorge, he saw a fireplace and four armed men. The herbalist did not manage to flee and was surrounded by these people. The Baron introduced himself to him and gave the man an offer. If he brings them sheep every four days, he gets twenty ducats, if he betrays them, they kill him. The herbalist wore the sheep, earned a decent living, but one day the baron disappeared to nowhere. A little later, the herbalist told his acquaintances about what had happened, and since then the gorge has bore Trenck's name.

The road from Skryje leads about 2 km along the road before you turn across the river and continue through a wide valley to Újezd.

We're going to the finals

Another lifeless section is the road in front of Újezd near Tišnov, but even that can be survived and the final climb to the railway station is rewarded with a view of the church in Dolní Loučky.

It started by train, it ends by train

After 15 km we are at the finish line and we end a relaxing weekend at the railway station in Dolní Loučky in a pleasant afternoon time.
