Exploring the island with two faces
Travelling around the island Milos is especially suitable for lovers of beautiful beaches. And those on the island Milos are often beautified with colorful volcanic cliffs. Apart from swimming you can see here also historic towns of Plaka or Pollonia. Very interesting are fishing villages with typical houses called wires and thanks to the unique early Christian catacombs was the island of Milos proclaimed a sacred island (2014). For tourists may be interesting western part of the island with the highest peak Profitis Ilias (748 m asl). Except for cruises around the island, you can undertake a trip to the neighboring, even less inhabited island Kimolos.
Day 1
Adamantas and Provatas
Whether you arrive here by a ferry or by air, your first steps will probably take you to Adamantas where you can easily rent a car (ideal option, if you want to see the island thoroughly), buy food or go to the restaurant. You can also have a walk to the church and go through the port. In the afternoon, head out to the beach Provatas with a nice colored reef. Here is possible a small walk along the cliffs separating the individual beaches in the bay or ascent to the church of Panagia Kipou.

Gateway to Milos
Beautiful panorama of town Adamantas is for most visitors to the island Milos the first thing they see here. Snow-white town in the slopes of the arid hill is the largest port on the island. Even if you arrive here by plane, you can, just after leaving the tiny airport, enjoy the view bay to the town across the. Provatas beach is best known mainly for its colorful volcanic cliff. The main busiest beach is located close to this cliff at the eastern end of the bay. But there are totally five beaches separated by smaller cliffs and rocks. Some of them are with sun loungers and refreshments, some almost Robinson-like. Thanks to its location in the south of the island, there are often waves, but there are also days when is the sea calm. As a bonus, you can also do a walk to the church on the reef. Day 2
Sarakiniko and Aghia Kiriaki
The next day can be a beach day. Set out to the stunning beach Sarakiniko surrounded by snow-white cliff early in the morning. Enjoy swimming around water caves and a short walk around the cliffs. Set out to the south of the island to a long beach Aghia Kiriaki in the afternoon. Ascend to the outlook place at the eastern end of the beach.

Beach Sarakiniko is one of the most interesting beaches on Milos. The narrow bay surrounded by snow-white reef is suitable not only for swimming, but also for a little adventurous walks on its surroundings. More than half a kilometer long beach of Aghia Kiriaki is in comparison with other renowned beaches in the south of the island relatively deserted. Day 3
Plaka, Firopotamos and Pollonia
The third day early in the morning head out to the oldest town on the island – to Plaka. Early morning is recommended mainly due to ascent to the castle, which is quite scorching in such a heat. But the views from the top are worth it! Plaka has quite a different atmosphere in the evening, so it is good to make a trip here in different times. After visiting Plaka head out for a morning swim in the amazing bay Firopotamos, where you can also see fishing houses called wires. Do not forget to drive up the road to in the direction to the quarry, where, after a few hundred meters, is a splendid view of the entire bay. In the afternoon, set out to the northeastern end of the island to Pollonia. Here you can not only swim in a quiet bay, but also make a walk to both churches and to the outlook place of the neighboring island Kimolos. This town has a very nice Mediterranean atmosphere.

The oldest town in Milos
Main, the oldest and highest town in Milos – all this is Plaka. Although you will not find here any great attraction, walks through the romantic streets and nooks are worth it. Additionally, after seeing the town you can ascend to the church of Panagia Thalassitra and even higher to the castle (Kastro), from where are amazing views virtually throughout the island. continue reading

At the very northeastern outpost of island Milos is a very nice town Pollonia embracing the beautiful cove, ideal for all lovers of swimming without waves. Along the southern part of the bay lies the old center with church and numerous tavernas overlooking the sea. On the north side there are apartment houses and the outpost is ended by another small church with a nice view of the neighboring island Kimolos (only a kilometer away). continue reading
Day 4
Cruise around Milos
During the boat trip you can explore mainly the western part of the island, where almost no roads lead and travelling on land is thus quite complicated. Interesting stops are mainly cave Sikia and perhaps the most famous place of the island Kleftiko with amazing rock formations. Swimming is possible on a lovely beach Aghios Ioannis and Ammoudaraki in the bay Triades with rock formations.
5th day
Return to Sarakiniko
If you liked the beach Sarakiniko, get here again and make a walk along the white cliffs up to Mantrakia. Of course, it can be managed during your first visit to this beach. In addition, Mantrakia is accessible also by car. In the afternoon head to the stunning volcanic beach Firiplaka.

Most people go to Sarakiniko because of the most beautiful beaches on the island of Milos offering nice swimming between snowy cliffs. But you can set out from here also for interesting walk along the cliffs to the village Mantrakia located less than two kilometers away. Half of this walk leads through the cliffs, the second part along the gravel road. Just before Mantrakia is another possibility for swimming. continue reading

Picturesque fishing village
Mantrakia (sometimes called also Mandrakia) is a picturesque fishing village on the north coast of Milos. You can see also here fishing houses called wires so typical for the Cyclades. The village has a bit of bad luck that the beach is not very good, so tourists prefer neighboring cove Firopotamos, which offer much better opportunities for swimming and the village is similarly picturesque. Anyway, it's only a short detour (1 km) from the main road, so a short visit is worthwhile. continue reading

It attracts thanks to its beauty lots of tourists despite the fact that the final downhill drive leads along a dusty gravel road. In the afternoon you can have a problem to park here. Day 6
Klima, Trypiti, Plathiena and Paliochori
Next day set out to explore the typical fishing houses called wires in Klima. Directly above them is a nice small town Trypiti with the cathedral and windmills. You can also make a walk to the ancient theater or to early Christian catacombs. Thanks to these unique catacombs was the island of Milos proclaimed as a sacred Island in 2014. You can finish this morning at the semi-abandoned beach Plathiena north of Plaka. After lunch set out again to the south of the island to another beautiful volcanic beach Paliochori.

Picturesque fishing village on Milos
In the Cyclades and particularly on the island of Milos is interesting to see fishing dwellings called wires, which served not only for housing, but also as a small yard. These dwellings are often carved into the rock and are mostly brightly colored or in a combination of white and light blue – typical for Greece. The eighth day explore more the end of Milos bay, where is one of the longest beaches on the island Achivadolimni. Additionally, you can explore the foothills of Profitis Ilias. The whole day you will have nice views of the towns Adamantas and Plaka.

Beach Achivadolimni is one of the longest on the island Milos. It is surprisingly also one of the loneliest, even though there is a nice view of Adamantas and Plaka, as well as of the highest mountain in the island – Profitis Ilias. Drive Through the foothills of Milos

The western half of Milos is mountainous and almost without inhabitants and asphalt roads. So if you want to see at least the edge of this country, walk from the beach Achivadolimni along the only lake on the island up to the church of Aghia Marina, where the asphalt road ends. Along the way you'll have beautiful views of the highest mountain in the island Profitis Ilias and over Milos bay of the historic Plaka, Adamantas and other landmarks of the island. continue reading
