Picturesque fishing village
Mantrakia (sometimes called also Mandrakia) is a picturesque fishing village on the north coast of Milos. You can see also here fishing houses called wires so typical for the Cyclades. The village has a bit of bad luck that the beach is not very good, so tourists prefer neighboring cove Firopotamos, which offer much better opportunities for swimming and the village is similarly picturesque. Anyway, it's only a short detour (1 km) from the main road, so a short visit is worthwhile.
Bay Mantrakia
After a kilometer downhill from the hill (about 100 altitude meters) will open the view in a wide cove of Mantrakia. The rocky cliff is picturesque, but the beach is unfortunately only a narrow rocky strip. But even so you will occasionally see here some people swimming.
Cove in Mantrakia
The fishing village was established here mainly because of the small protected bay serving as a perfect port.
Church in Mantrakia
As in every Greek village, there must be snow-white church completing the authentic Greek atmosphere.
Wires
The most interesting are here the fishing wires carved directly into the cliff, which traditionally abound in all colors.
Sea romance
Before you set out for further exploration of the island, sit here for a while and enjoy a true Mediterranean atmosphere.
