Below Profitis Ilias
The western half of Milos is mountainous and almost without inhabitants and asphalt roads. So if you want to see at least the edge of this country, walk from the beach Achivadolimni along the only lake on the island up to the church of Aghia Marina, where the asphalt road ends. Along the way you'll have beautiful views of the highest mountain in the island Profitis Ilias and over Milos bay of the historic Plaka, Adamantas and other landmarks of the island.
The only lake in Milos
If you are on the beach Achivadolimni, you just need to cross the road and you are at the only lake on Milos (area of 250×150 meters). When viewed from here in the direction of the mountains, you certainly do not have the impression that you're just a few meters from the sea, but rather somewhere in in the middle of mountain range.
The arid hillside of Profitis Ilias
The arid slopes of Profitis Ilias rise already from the sea. Almost from all the places on the island are visible windmills built in the pass below the summit.
Profitis Ilias
Profitis Ilias (748 m asl) is significantly above the surrounding hills in Milos. On the top is a church and it is possible to get to the very top along bad-quality gravel road.
The church of Aghia Marina
If you do not have an off-road vehicle, bike or car, you need to do with a nice view from the church of Aghia Marina (165 m asl), where the asphalt road ends. From here leads to the sea gravel road to the beach Fatourena.
View from church
From the church of Aghia Marina is across the Milos bay beautiful view of the old town in Plaka.
