The tour of Guadix is definitely not monotonous. You will start in the historic center with the dominant cathedral. A little further on is the quite picturesque Plaza de la Constitucion. Then a monastery and a nice castle. From here you can take a walk to the cave district. It is interesting to visit the city even in the evening, when the main sights are nicely lit.

View from the modern part of Guadix

Looking south from the modern part of Guadix, you will see the Sierra Nevada ridge in the distance, which is covered in snow from autumn to spring. Closer to you is a tuff ridge in which there are famous cave dwellings. Above everything rises the tall tower of the local cathedral.

Under the cathedral

The city center itself is a massive roundabout (the former main road connecting Almeria with Granada and the A92 motorway exit, which now makes the city bypass), pass through it. Here it is ideal to start the tour – the cathedral rises directly above you.

The imposing cathedral of Guadix

The bell tower on the cathedral is truly monumental. Walks are pleasant here, especially early in the morning, when practically no one is here and the light is ideal.

Entrance portal to the cathedral

The most beautiful part of the cathedral, however, is the entrance portal, precisely decorated.

Plaza de la Constitucion

The center of the old town is the Plaza de la Constitucion, where the town hall is located. Unfortunately, cars can park here as well, so they lose a bit of atmosphere.

Church of Santiago

Before you reach the castle, you will pass another interesting church monument – the Church with the Santiago Monastery, also with a sophisticated entrance portal.

At the castle in Guadix

At the view of the castle, the classic tour of the city center turns back to the roundabout in front of the cathedral, but you continue south to the quarter of the house carved into the tuff rock. But that's another story.

Cathedral at night

If you come to visit Guadix, so if you stay overnight here, it is definitely worth going for another tour of the center. The sights are nicely lit, but you will hardly meet a foot here.

Fairytale portal

The magnificent entrance portal to the cathedral looks really fabulous at night.
