Although the biggest magnets around Mnichovo Hradiště are the famous Drábské světničky, the best hike directly from the town leads to Mohelnice nad Jizerou around the beautiful chateau, over the Káčov hill with an interesting rock formation and over the remains of the Zásadka chateau to the Jizera.

City Hall in Munich Hradiste

The ideal start to this tour is from the very center of Mnichovo Hradiště, from Masaryk Square, where it is possible to park

Church of St. Of St. James in Mnichov Hradiště

From the center, take the green tourist path, which we will follow all the time. You will walk to the church of St. Jakuba. If you go around it, you will find that behind it is a fairly large grassy area with a limited view of the local castle.

Mnichovo Hradiště Chateau

We continue from the church a few hundred meters until we reach a real gem – Mnichovo Hradiště Castle. There is a large freely accessible park from where you can enjoy views of the most famous building

Capuchin monastery Mnichovo Hradiště

Behind the castle park you will come across the former Capuchin monastery Mnichovo Hradiště in which the famous Albrecht of Wallenstein is buried.

March through the alley in the direction of Káčov

We will bypass the chateau car park and continue along a straight line along the alley in the direction of Káčov Hill. From the beginning, the march is a bit spoiled by a satellite town stuck right next to the alley. The views are as far as the distant Příhrazské rocks and the Mužský peak

Ascent through the oak forest to Káčov

The alley ends and the path takes you to a nice oak forest, where it first climbs slightly, then more steeply to the top of the Káčov hill. There are signs for the Sychrovská bažantnice nature trail, where you can read a lot of interesting things about pheasants and the local pheasant house.

The top of Káčov

You leave the forest and find that the large top of the hill is occupied by a photovoltaic power plant and other inaccessible buildings. Perhaps there should sometimes be a lookout tower here, it is not very accessible here yet

Rock bitch Káčov

Disappointment from the top of the hill will compensate you for a small protected area – the natural monument Vrch Káčov. The main attraction here is the basalt quarry, which uncovered most of the local Tertiary knot. The highest part of the rest today serves as a great view of the region

At the top

The path climbs quite steeply around the quarry until you reach the top of a few meters of top rock. The output on it is then secured by chains

View from the rocky outcrop

There is a perfect semicircular view from the top. The horizon is dominated by important peaks such as Bezděz, Ralsko or Ještěd

View of Ještěd and the Jizera valley

The Jizera Valley is in the palm of your hand. For photos, it's probably better in the morning than in the afternoon

Sychrov Chapel

From the quarry, the road descends for a while along the local road through the settlement of Sychrov. Here you can see the chapel and the statue of St. Jan Nepomucký

The ruins of the Zásadka chateau

A little further on, you will come across another interesting feature of this tour – the ruins of a small chateau Zásadka built on a rocky promontory high above the Jizera. Admission is free

Policy Tour

All that remains of the chateau itself are the perimeter walls, but there is a nice view of the Jizera and Mohelnice. You will also be interested in a lot of different little things in the area

Descent to the Jizera

From Zásada, the road descends sharply through a nice forest to the Jizera

Jizera

You will emerge from the forest directly at the Jizera. Then the hiking trail leads through the farm and there is a road bridge over the river

View of Zásadka

Now a few hundred meters down the road to Mohelnice nad Jizerou. The ruins of the Chateau can be seen nicely from the meadow in front of the village. And how to get out of here? You can return another way to Mnichovo Hradiště (follow the blue one), continue by long-distance road to Ještěd or to Svijan
