Rainy trip to natural and architectural beauties
This time we will stay at lower altitudes and visit the mountain villages of Riom and Parsonz as well as the town of Savognin itself. All these towns are located in the valley of the river Gelgia and are part of the Ela Park, which is the largest nature park in Switzerland. Here you will find untouched nature and typical mountain villages. Savognin is also a ski resort.
Exit by cable car
Our journey began by taking the cable car to Tigignas station. From where we continued on foot.
Mountain meadows
On our way we pass mountain meadows and pastures full of flowers, butterflies and other insects. Among the local species are abundant rattlesnake, arnica, or the rare cuckoo orchid.
Mountain huts
Numerous mountain huts and homesteads can be seen on the pastures. Meadows are grazed or mown.
Fauna
So we met a beautiful example of Swiss fauna. More than once we came across roe deer, but this cute fawn also made our trip more pleasant.
Adont river valley
The moment we started approaching one of the destinations of our journey, it really rained down. But even the rain couldn't stop us from enjoying the view of this beautiful and predatory river Adont.
Rock formations
We were surprised by the local rock formations, which look as if someone has arranged them there. In rainy weather they have a very mysterious appearance.
Salaschigns
Along the way we meet a beautiful church with an even more beautiful view. The place is called Salaschigns.
Living alone
There is also a house in Salaschigns where, as we understand it, you can stay – without electricity, water and other modern conveniences.
View of the surrounding cities
From Salaschigns there is also a beautiful view of the surrounding towns of Parsonz, Riom and Savognin.
We cross the Adont River again
We crossed the Adont river again, this time the gap in the river is much bigger. In the valley, the river flows into the river Gelgia.
Typical architecture
We reached the town of Parsonz. Most of the houses are cow farms. The town lives from the production of dairy products. We were fascinated by the local way of trading – local traders have lockers on the fence with their goods and a money box – one takes a product and throws in the money box the amount of francs listed for the product. This system testifies to Swiss honesty :)
Riom
Another town we went through was Riom. Here is a castle from the 13th century, which now hosts cultural events.
View of the valley
After returning to the town of Savognin, much better weather and a view of the valley await us. We can see the town of Riom and the mountain behind it called Piz Toisa.
Lai Barnagn
In Savognin we also find a lake called Lai Barnagn. This lake is widely used for recreation. As mentioned in the previous article, the Swiss are much tougher than we are.
Evening in Savognin
He came to the town of Savognin in the evening. The clouds have risen and the sun is beautifully illuminating the surrounding hills. This is the end of our tour.
