This cycling trip will take you mainly around the Vranov dam – ie. around Vranov Castle, the ruins of Cornštejn and Bítov Castle.

We start in Lesná

The car can be left in the spacious car park, directly opposite the Museum of Historic Motorcycles. At the same time you will find yourself in a pleasant restaurant.

Vranov Dam - a suspension bridge over the Swiss Bay

The suspension bridge was built in 1993 according to the plans of a team of architects led by J. Stráský. The bridge deck bridge measures 252 meters and is suspended on two 28-meter-high pylons. The main hanging cables consist of 2 × 108 ropes with a diameter of 15.5 mm.

Vranov nad Dyjí Chateau

The chateau is located in the western part of the Podyjí National Park and is a national cultural monument. It offers visitors a tour of the authentic Baroque interiors of the Hall of Ancestors and the chapel, but also introduces the culture of Vranov chateau housing from the end of the 18th century. and throughout the 19th century. Cornštejn ruins

We continue through Lančov to the Bítovská dam, where we are the first to be welcomed by the ruins of the Liechtenstein castle Cornštějn, located in the cadastral area of Bítov, about 8 km northwest of the town of Vranov nad Dyjí. The German origin of the castle name means anger and a stone castle. The castle is open to the public, there is a snack bar and a souvenir shop. More at: http://www.hrady.cz/?…

Horka Bay from the Hvězdička Viewpoint

We go to cool off in the bay Horka, where there is a camp and therefore a lot of people. However, the water no longer looks its best, so we get on our bikes and drive up to the village of Bítov with a hearty climb, from where we drive to the Hvězdička lookout.

Rumburak Lookout Tower

Bits

The Rumburak lookout tower is part of the Rumburak guest house, which stands at the foot of the Great Hill, by the road to Bítov Castle, about 35 km from Znojmo. This lookout tower is the only one in the Znojmo region and it is the youngest brick lookout tower in the Czech Republic. It was built by Vladka and Jaroslav Pysk in the years 2008 – 2009. It stands at an altitude of 474 meters, is 30 meters high and after climbing 146 steps you can see the valley of the Vranov dam – the river Dyje, the wide surroundings of the Vranov dam and the surrounding village 504 m. In good weather and clear visibility, you will also have a view of the distant Austrian Alps. More at: http://www.vranovsko.cz/…k-bitov.html

Rumburak Lookout Tower

A typical building in front of the lookout tower is a statue of a raven by Michal Olšiak and is located at the entrance to the guest house, and the relief of the raven is placed at the top of the tower.

Bítov Castle

Bítov is one of our oldest and most romantic castles. Its location in the landscape is aesthetically and functionally unique; rises on a rocky promontory above the Vranov dam. The last owner – Baron Jiří Haas from Hasenfels (1912–1945), enriched the castle collections with 49 stuffed dogs, the largest collection of its kind in the world. Lesná windmill

We are already turning from Bítov and through Chvalatice, Zálesí, Štítary and Šumná we will get back to Lesná. I recommend not to miss the Dutch-style mill at the end of the village, which was built in 1862. However, it functioned as a mill only until 1894, after which a wheelwright's workshop was established here. Today, the mill functions as a restaurant, which, however, disappointed us with very poor service, so we drove to the Motorcycle Museum for food. More at: http://www.vetrnymlyn.cz/?…

Mašovický lom

On the way back to Brno, we still stop at the last swimming pool in the nearby quarry in Mašovice. It would be a shame not to use it.
