Ascent to the windmill and the Gollitsch hill
The picturesque town of Retz is located in the Wienviertel wine region just a short distance from the border with the Czech Republic. It boasts a nice historic center around the Hauptplatz square. Several hiking and cycling routes lead from the city. The most popular walk here is to the windmill and back via the Gollitsch observation hill (325 m). We will also walk this route.

Panorama of the city of Retz
Not far from the windmill is a beautiful view not only of the Retz but all the way to the Czech Republic behind the former Iron Curtain.
