Kriváň 2494m once fought for the post of the highest mountain in the Tatras with Lomnický štít before Gerlachovský štít deployed both of them. This is due to its appearance as an imposing pyramid at the end of the ridge, which enhances its height. The ascent belongs to nutritious all-day hikes, below the peak there is almost UIAA level II climbing, but nothing that an ordinary tourist could do. The starting points are two, the shortest from Trech Studniček to green, or from Štrbské pleso, which is not so steep, the longer it is.

Route description

From the parking lot in a place called Tri Studničky, I follow the green sign zigzagging up a steep hill in serpentines. I walk through the forest turning into a knee (rhododendron) until I come out to the grassy area, where there are views of the wider surroundings and the very top. The sign leads to the gutter, where there is a crossroads with a connecting path from Štrbské pleso. I continue along the blue sign leading to the ridge and then to the top. Almost double climbing awaits me below the summit, but a certain step and clear grips give a smooth course of the ascent. At the top there is a double cross and views of the entire Tatras. The way back leads the same way. If I am not bound by a car, I can go to Štrbské pleso, where the sidewalk is not so steep.
