Ascent to the highest mountain in Slovakia
Gerlachovský štít, also called Gerlach, is the highest mountain in the High Tatras, Slovakia and the entire Carpathians. Due to its height, accessibility and beautiful mountain scenery, it is one of the most visited peaks. Ascent to Gerlachovský štít is allowed only in the company of a mountain guide.
Horsky Hotel Sliezsky Dom
We start the ascent early in the morning from the Silesian House, where we were transported by car from Tatranská Polianka
Velická dolina - Velická próba
Above the Silesian houses we had a classic „Tatra“ climb on the rocks to a place under the wall, where we took a short break, put on our seats and tied them to a rope. After that, we started to climb already secured.
A great trial up
I watched every step and looked more under my feet than at the surroundings: D
We are approaching the top
According to the mountain guide, the whole trip should take us about 5–6 hours from the Silesian House to Batizovská pleso

Descent through the Batizov Trough
The journey down the Batizov Trough did not seem so difficult to me. Some places under the top are secured with chains, in one place with shingles.
The chamois greets us below the summit
Rest over the Batizov Ball
Along the stones to the Batizov Ball
We pass a small waterfall between the stones
Batizovské pleso
we are approaching the ball and from there we still have a trip along the Tatra highway to the Silesian House
Batizovské pleso

just walk to the Silesian House from where we have again a pick-up to Tatranská Polianka
Velické pleso
We can already see the Velický waterfall above Velický pleso, which is by the Silesian house
