Hike around Štrbské pleso

Unfortunately, the road to Štrbské pleso is not lined with dense forests as it used to be before 2004. Now, 13 years after the wind disaster, the Tatras are starting to turn green again with new stands of naturally frozen spruces, larch and other woody plants.

The Solisko ridge rises above Štrbské pleso. The photo shows the hill Predné Solisko. Below the peak there is a cottage below Solisko, which can be reached by a four-seater cable car. It is then possible to climb Predné Solisko.

Two valleys slope from the Solisko ridge – Mlýnická (pictured), where you can visit the 25 m high Skok and Furkotská waterfalls.

Due to the storm and rainy weather, we chose a shorter descent through the Furkot Valley.

On the way to the valley you will find a wonderful view of the opposite peaks of the Low Tatras.

During the descent from the crossroads Pod Furkotkou, the kneeling pine disappears and torsos of spruce stands start. When we start approaching back to Štrbské pleso, we can see a large ski jump. The ski jumps (large and small) are a remnant of the resort's lost glory as the venue for the 1970 World Ski Championships.

You can walk around Štrbské pleso on a comfortable path. In nice weather there are beautiful views of the surrounding peaks. There are various hotels on the shores of the lake, such as the Patria Hotel (pictured).

From the lake there is a beautiful view of the Solisko ridge and the ski jump.

In the Štrbské pleso resort there is not only a large lake, which is typical for this locality, but also a small lake called Nové Štrbské pleso. It is a lake with an area of over 2ha and a depth of almost 10m.
