On the southern edge of the historic center of Salzburg you will find the monumental fortress Hohensalzburg on the hill Festungsberg (548 m above sea level). It forms an inseparable, very photogenic dominant feature of the city. The fortress is accessible from the center and a historic cog railway. Due to its vastness, it is not only the largest castle in Austria, but also one of the largest in Europe
