Gombe gained his world fame thanks to Jane Goodal, who began her research on chimpanzees here. And as can be seen from the introduction, this is a protected area where chimpanzees, among others, go to observe. Finding chimpanzees here can be quite physically demanding and it was not uncommon to walk in the hills even 10 km before we discovered them.
