The Great Rift Valley stretching through the entire East Africa has around Fort Portal character of small crater lakes covered with lush vegetation that is the home to many species of monkeys and birds. From several dozen of these lakes is the most accessible Lake Nkuruba just about 20 kilometers from this town. Unlike other sites in western Uganda, this trip is not so attractive, but anyway quite satisfactory for spending a nice afternoon.

Monkeys on the banks of the lake

After you drive through largely agricultural country, you will finally get to crater lake surrounded by forest. Right at the edge there is a nice lodge, but fortunately also those not staying here have access to the lake. The most monkeys are probably right at the beginning, where they come for fruit.

The biggest monkey you can see here is the Green Monkey. They are pretty tame, so you will see them from very close.
